Where Sens. Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, VA Representatives Stand on Syria
Virginia's Congressional delegation appears split on authorizing military strike on Syria.

Virginia Sen. Mark R. Warner on Tuesday praised President Barack Obama's address to the nation, saying he had “outlined a responsible path to a credible diplomatic solution” in Syria.

Warner, a Democrat, did not say explicitly that he favored a strike on Syria in response to reports the government there had gassed its own people with chemical weapons.

Warner said he will work on “a bipartisan resolution that includes tight deadlines and which allows unannounced, even intrusive, inspections by international observers.”

His response follows Sen. Timothy M. Kaine's vote in committee to authorize a military strike.

In his national address, the president “made a strong case to the American people for why Bashar Al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons to kill Syrian civilians must have consequences,” Kaine said, according to The Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Russia’s foreign minister opened a possible route away from military action, proposing that Syria turn over all of its chemical weapons for destruction. Syria has said it will agree, but critics, including the president, remain skeptical.

The president said last night that he had asked Congressional leaders to delay a vote on authorizing a military strike while he pursues a diplomatic solution.

According to the Times-Dispatch, only Kaine, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-7th, and Reps. Jim Moran, D-8th and Gerald E. Connolly, D-11th, clearly favor authorizing military action.

Other members of the delegation oppose a strike, are skeptical or undecided

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner praised the president's talk on Syria.

Congressman Frank Wolf Links Syria to Benghazi Attack
Congressman says CIA, State Department may have been stockpiling weapons at U.S. consulate.

Northern Virginia Congressman Frank Wolf (R-10th) claims there is a link between violence in Syria and Benghazi, where a U.S. ambassador and three others were killed last year.

Wolf has been pushing for months to get a special committee appointed to look into what happened when four Americans were killed Sept. 11, 2012 at the American consulate in Libya.

If diplomatic talks currently underway fail, Congress could take up a vote next week on whether to take military action against Syria, in response to reports the government there had gassed its own people with chemical weapons.

"... it is increasingly apparent that U.S. actions in Benghazi since 2011 have a strong connection with U.S. policy toward assisting the Syrian rebels," Wolf said Monday in a panel discussion at Judicial Watch, a conservative think tank.

"Many of these rebels are now believed to be al Qaeda connected affiliates, including those that may have participated in the attack on the consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi," Wolf said.

Wolf has brought up the CIA connection in the past.

"In light of the evidence that has emerged following the attacks, I firmly believe that whatever the State Department and CIA were doing in Benghazi had a direct connection to U.S. policy in Syria—a policy that to date has not been fully revealed to the American people or Congress," Wolf said.

"While troubling in isolation it is all the more so in light of the president’s request to Congress this week to authorize military intervention Syria. How can this conversation advance in a responsible manner without clarity about what transpired that night in Benghazi?"

The Northern Virginia congressional delegation, minus Wolf, has signaled they would vote for military action against Syria. Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-10th) has co-sponsored legislation that would put a narrow definition on the American response. The congressman has received some criticism for his stance on taking military action.

Others representing Northern Virginia, including Congressman Jim Moran (D-8th) and Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, all Democrats, are reportedly on board with military action.

Congress could take up a vote next week if diplomacy fails; Secretary of State John Kerry is in talks with Russian officials in Geneva.

Kaine and Warner are both now officially Obama sycophants.

I was disappointed in Mark Warner, he seemed a fiscally aware and pragmatic type pol; Timothy has always been a mealy mouthed closet socialist- I never expected much good from him.

Watch Frank Wolf on the Benghazi thing....

The libtards are trying to echo the narrative that Benghazi is some right wing, tin foiler crusade. It's not, and the fact that a moderate like frank Wolf is helming an inquiry leads credibility there are a lot of questions that need answering.

Wolf was speaking at Judicial Watch -- not so much a think tank as a propaganda mill, but either way, no place to play the moderate. Meanwhile, to all those not believing that Obama is some Kenyan Muslim out to destroy the United States, Warner and Kaine make a lot of sense. The world looked away last Spring. It is not the time to look away again. Whether through military strikes or by some alternative means yet to be worked out, there must be a reaction from civilized nations.

Go ahead... We'll watch.

Which is effective what the reaction has been from the 'civilized world.' If you're going to claim the name 'The Realist' then at least be real about it.

The 'civilized world' means us. Again. As usual.

Somebody else from the civilized world can step up and take the lead on this one. If so, then we can provide support to them. Otherwise, it's not worth it and it's not likely to work anyway. People want to play the 'international community' bs, then let's see it.

Hmmm. Another civics class dropout? You don't get to opt in or out.

Been following the commotion at the Security Council? I suspect not.

No, the civilized world is much more than just the US. Admittedly, I don't see exactly where you fit in.

Who has the technology?

So you're fine with two-bit tinhorns firing chemical weapons all over the place? That's pathetic. And the most signficant point of a response is simply to respond -- to note that the standards of the civilized world will be upheld and a price will be paid by those who ignore them.
