GMU cops shot at a couple of drunk non-gmu people after they hit a cop and tried to flee. No one was hurt.

Talk about the Keystone Kops---"minor injury" to the cops, justifies the use of deadly force from behind th car??? The cops are lucky the did not hit anyone--that would be a huge lawsuit.

GMU cops are out of control. Drove through downtown Fairfax City Thursday night and I'm pretty sure the hazardous driving by the cop car through downtown FC was some nutty gmu cop driving irregular then flashing his lights then turning them off and then on again. Hardly anybody on the streets I got feeling the gmu cops acting like mad dogs pent up for the month of august and then let loose on the streets of fairfax city to harass folks.

sieg heil baby!

I think it's a bit problemic hiring so many ex military to be cops these days. of course, we are headed for a police state ain't we?

did gmu student fees go towards the purchase of an unmarked car? what the eff does a college security force need an unmarked car for?

GMU arent hiring ex-military any more theyre only going Quotas hirings now and have been for quiet some time. That said they have 60 something officers that literally have nothing to deal with. The department is far to large for the area

The thing about ex-military people is that they are accustomed to following orders. So if police management provides clear training and guidelines with proper supervision and discipline, the street cops are very likely to do what they are supposed to. Problems are usually the result of the top cops taking a "boys will be boys" or "it's us against the world" attitude and allowing that attitude to permeate the department (e.g. Fairfax County).

GMU police is a well respected dept. You all should provide them with the respect they deserve for keeping the community safe and providing top notch law enforcement services.

GMU cops are the only thing separating George Mason from JMU.

I think they also cover several other campus locations, I know of one in Arlington and another near Gainesville.

They do but its generally one or two officers. The Gainsville one barely has a presence, not sure about Arlington but thats a small campus as well. Most of them are located at the Fairfax one which has Fairfax City, FCPD, and the court house a stones throw away. Theres also a Loudon Campus now Ive never actually been too, but if its anything like the other two youre talking 2 maybe 3 officers max for the small campus.

GMU cops are the ones that couldn't get on a "real" police force. And what are they doing making traffic stops off campus? Braddock Road, Ox Road and Roberts Road are not apart of GMU.

Mason administrators shouldn't let their law enforcement officers stand in the way of their success. That is just stupid, but then again look at the students that go there.

You are funny.. trying to put JMU and GMU in the same sentence. Please, JMU is on a whole different stratosphere than GMU. GMU will always be the Northern Virginia commuter school.
