Police: Shot fired in Dumfries area Friday

Two men were arrested after shots were fired in the Dumfries area Friday night, police said.
A Prince William County police officer was in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Wayside Drive just after 11:30 p.m. Friday when he heard a gunshot coming from the nearby Exxon gas station, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
The officer then saw a vehicle speed away from the gas station parking lot, Perok said.
The officer stopped the vehicle in the area of River Ridge Boulevard and Barrley Drive, searched the vehicle and found a handgun and marijuana, and arrested the two men inside
Earl Douglas Newman II, 22, of the 3000 block of Azalea Sands Lane, was charged with shooting a firearm from a vehicle. He was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond and has a court date on Sept. 25.
James Michael Newman, 19, also of the 3000 block of Azalea Sands Lane, was charged with possession of marijuana. He was released on a summons to appear in court and information about his next court date was not available.
Earl Douglas Newman II, 22, of the 3000 block of Azalea Sands Lane, is charged with shooting a firearm from a vehicle.
