Appling to George Mason

I am appling to George Mason fo next fall. I hear good and bad. I have toured the campus already and I do like it so far. I am interested in their science programs. Just walking through a two hour tour I don't get the full scoop. What gives? Any stories?

Just be sure to brush up on your spelling before you apply. The word is spelled as follows:

George Mason is where you go when you can't get into your first choice or second choice school. It is a commuter college. BORING!

Just stay away from the whole area. Fairfax does not need you!

We do not need anymore illiterate people 'appling' to GMU! It is a well know fact (underground perhaps) that almost any foreigner who decides to attend classes at GMU is being watched.

It is posts like this that piss me. People with no English grammar skills are screwing up the academic standard! If you must, go apply to NYU. Or even better, go to NVCC and take English 101 at the graduated high school level! You will be doing us all a favor.

I've always heard that Old Dominion University is a good turkey school for an easy degree - apparently quite a reputation among certain communities.

Interestingly, my (former) wife got a Master's degree in Computer Science from University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus - 4.0 GPA.

When she applied to University of Maryland, College Park, for the CMSC PhD program they told her that UMBC was a turkey school and rejected her.

I cannot believe that the "University of Northern Virginia" is even a real school. According to their website though they have "just invested $50,000 in U.S. funds" into their facility. If this is in fact a real school I cannot see how it became accredited.

For clarification, the $50,000 (US$) was invested in their Prague location.

When you get to work tomorrow, see if your employer will approve them for tuition reimbursement. I'll bet $10.00 they wont. Seems a bit shady to me.

A lot of the employers around here approve tuition assistance for people to go to University of Phoenix, Strayer, Devry, etc, so I wouldn't be surprised if this University of Northern Virginia diploma mill is approved.

I don't know how it is now, but they used to reject 3.9 GPA in-state applicants quite often (In favor of the higher paying out-of-state students).

Usually the fine print of any tuition assistance program refers to "accredited" and may even specify which accrediting authorities Checking the Department of Education website, the University of Northern Virginia does not have an accreditation from an EDU approved accreditation source.

GMU is a very good school, I go there and I see it as a school with little social excitement. You have to be in a frat or sorority to do anything. It helps if you arent from the area.

People living on-campus will have a better time than commuters. If you're a commuter and you want any semblance of a college experience, you'd better join some student activities/frats/sororities or be extroverted as fuck.

If you looking for the college experience, obviously live on campus.

Unfortunately Mason (along with NoVA) has become a clusterfuck of cultures.. If you can get into Mason, hopefully you can get into JMU.. where there are mostly white kids..

This assuming your white.

30k+ Students and less than 8k live on campus, just to give you an idea.

This is the norm for any school of that size.

Mason has decent science programs. It's probably like most schools where you get out of it what you put in. What's your plan? Are you interested in "science" because you're pre-med? If so, major in whatever the hell makes you happy, and just do the prereqs as electives.
