Just tell the judge that you weren't aware of the speed, because you were focused on looking for children and animals in the road due to safety and you couldn't have exceeded the speed limit for more than a moment. When the judge hears that you were focused on safety and you would have adjusted your speed had you been aware of it, he'll dismiss the charge, because it's foolish to fine a safe driver that's more concerned with other people's safety than you own. Also, point out that you've been meaning to get your speedometer calibrated, because you've noticed that it sometimes reads low. Then point out that the manufacturer should have installed a better quality speedometer to ensure these types of misunderstandings don't happen. Then ask for voluntary driver safety school in lieu of a conviction. And, ask where you can sign up to volunteer to pick up trash on the side of the road to keep Virginia and Fairfax looking good. Then point out that you weren't charged with drunk driving and system should focus on the positive aspects of your driving. Also, point out that you've been distressed lately due to the high property taxes that support local services.
If you do all that with a sincere look in your eyes, the judge will dismiss the charge and reprimand the cop for hassling a good citizen.
