Gerry Connolly's Claims
Posted by: Valued Reader ()

In this week's Fairfax Chronicle, Gerry connolly writes a column with many claims.

See pages 13-14. If you have the technology to turn his column into text and post it here so that we can analyze it, I sure would appreciate it.

Gerry Connolly is a hack, he'll say anything to get a vote. He promised he'd do what was necessary to find our reasons for flooding and fix the situation. He then commissioned the Army Corps of Engineers to do their THIRD study of why our neighborhood floods, at the cost of millions of $$$, only to find that it has always been the County's fault (no shock there if you read the two previous studies commissioned by the County), due to over-development storm water run-off and a lack of dredging Cameron Run.

The Board (of which he was then Chairman) decided to do nothing. When questioned by the press about the inaction of the County he replied (very arrogantly) that we were offered the option of a buy-out to move, the residents of our neighborhood declined the offer, it was our choice to stay where we were. Hmmm, our other options were RAISE OUR HOUSES AN ENTIRE LEVEL AND BRICK OFF OUR BASEMENTS, accept a buy-out at a MUCH depreciated value because we are now "flood prone", or THE COUNTY DREDGES THE CHANNEL AND BUILDS A FLOOD WALL. Now what do think the residents of our community supported?

BTW, since we had our major flood, the County requested that all of the neighborhoods close to streams in FX County be studied and reclassified as "in the flood plain", so as to avoid responsibility for future flash floods from streams the County uses for storm run-off. If you now live in a "flood plain" you are required to purchase flood insurance.

Well I'm sure the people in the neighborhood opted for the option that made the County pay for anything.

You live in a place that floods, move the fuck out and stop wanting our tax dollars to fix your situation!

... I fully support Connolly and the boards decision to not spend our tax dollars on dredging in a flood plane.

Joe Plumber, we opted for what he promised us- a solution to the problem. A problem created by the County and is still perpetuated by the County, hello, all the VDOT ramps for the WW Bridge project? He, and Gerry Hyland, peacocked around our neighborhood for MONTHS promising a solution to why we were flooded. And when it all came down they shit the bed.

And easy enough to say, just move... My neighborhood is now "flood prone" because the County won't take responsibilty, we lost major equity in the property as a result Hey, any chance you might be interested in a "sometimes" waterfront home? Go screw loser.
