I heard a rumor that a local contractor was hiring illegal day laborers and then murdering them at the end of the job to avoid paying them. FCPD received a tip that the bodies were dumped in various lakes throughout the county.

There is a serial killer in Reston. First, he threw an old guy off Heron House, Second, he threw an old guy in Lake Thoreau.Notice the water theme.

Body Discovered in South Lakes Area

Reston Police District - Around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 23 officers responded for an elderly man whose property was located in the 11100 block of South Lakes Drive. The owner of the property could not be located. While searching, the patrol officers, assisted by the police helicopter, located a body in Lake Thoreau next to the shopping center. The police dive team responded and recovered the body from the water. While positive identification has not yet been made and cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner, the body is believed to be that of the 91-year-old man officers were looking for earlier. The investigation is ongoing but does not appear criminal in nature.

Body recovered from Lake Thoreau in Reston
http://www.fairfaxtimes.com/article/20130823/NEWS/130829427/1117/body-recovered-from-lake-thoreau-in-reston&template=fairfaxTimes

Fairfax County police recovered the body of an elderly man from Lake Thoreau in Reston on Friday morning.

Officers aboard a police helicopter sighted a body in the lake at about 10 a.m. while they were looking for a 91-year-old man who was reported missing in the South Lakes area of Reston at about 9:30 a.m., said police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

Caldwell said police divers aided Fairfax Fire and Rescue members in recovering the body, which has not yet been identified.

“We cannot say whether it is the man police were initially searching for,” she said. “The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and make a positive identification.”

Witnesses at South Lakes Village Shopping Center said a walker and some articles of clothing were lying on the dock of the lake at the shopping center before police and rescue teams arrived.

“I saw them laying there,” said Lauren Reynolds of Reston, who was walking her dog on the dock Friday morning and stayed as the recovery took place. “I didn’t really think much of it until police showed up and I saw them putting on diving suits.”

The recovery of the body continued until 1 p.m. and coincided with lunch crowds making their way to the waterside restaurants in the shopping center, requiring police to put up yellow “do not cross” tape around the recovery scene.

“Parking in this area is normally very congested,” said Mitch Isaacson, who was on his way to lunch. “I think this tragic event got a lot of people’s attention as soon as they entered the center because there was literally nowhere to park.”

My wife suggested that they might have committed suicide due to their health care changes under Obamacare. I did see an article recently where studies indicated that the costs were going up.

He's probably on Medicare. Older people's insurance would be going down since premium difference for age is capped.

I wish baby boomers would follow this guys example now and voluntarily transition.

The baby boomer paper pushing slackers are going to be a huge burden in half a dozen years.

The problem is people tend to be a burden at both ends of life. If you have more than 1 kid in school, you're actually a drain on the public.

Apparently the guy was from the "old folks" apartments across the street from the shopping center. I assume, at 91, he decided enough and want to die peacefully without being hooked up to tubes.

Couldn't he have just OD'd on his sleeping pills? This cost the taxpayers some money, scuba divers and equipment aren't cheap.

Thoreau Place is independent living. Maybe he had dementia and went for a swim. Nobody is really watching them full-time.

I knew this man very well. He was a WWII veteran with a loving family and was able to engage anyone in a conversation, no matter how different they were from him. He lived a long, full, happy life and will be missed by many in the community. There is no way to know exactly what happened, but regardless, the world is a better place and I am a better person for having known him. This man is owed a great deal of respect.

The bottom of the lake? Does anyone know if he was suicidal or that he was prone to dementia? Seems a bit strange for a WWII Veteran to go out this way. A real shame.

At that age, you never know. The state of mind for an elderly person can deteriorate temporarily and rapidly due to a change in medical condition, such as an illness, blood sugar, dehydration, etc. They many engage you well in a conversion where they're well versed or seem incoherent at times in other times due to short-term memory loss or temporary conditions as stated.

Very sad, to have lived and survived through the worst war in modern, only to die at the bottom of a lake in Reston. The history that this man saw and experienced, the lessons learned, perhaps in the end, he wanted us to know that he still had control of his own destiny.
