One person was taken to the hospital Sunday after a vehicle slammed into the side of Our Lady Of Good Counsel Church just before the close of 11:15 a.m. Mass.

A dispatcher with the Fairfax County Police Department told Patch on Sunday afternoon that one person was taken to the hospital after the incident with non-life threatening injuries. It's not clear if that victim was the driver.

A building inspector also went out to the scene on Wolftrap Road, the dispatcher said. The car was towed.

Resident Valerie Mooney was attending the 11:15 a.m Mass Sunday morning around 12:15 p.m. but it wasn't until she left the church that she saw and heard the accident scene.

"It wasn't until we left the building that anyone knew it had happened," she told Patch.

Its not yet known how much damage the church sustained, or what caused the accident.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

Update: No Charges Filed After Car Crashed Into Vienna Church
The driver of a Toyota Camry was hospitalized after crashing her car into the side of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church

More details have been released regarding a car that crashed into the side of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church early Sunday afternoon.

A silver 2000 Toyota Camry smashed into the side of the building at the close of the 11:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. The driver, a 66-year-old woman, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Don Gotthardt with the Fairfax County Police Department.

The accident occurred near the back end of the building, far away from the main sanctuary and closer to the administration offices and rectory; members of the congregation taking part in the late-morning service did not discover the accident had occurred until the conclusion of the service.

The Catholic school associated with the church -- located in a separate building on the same campus -- was unaffected by the accident, as was parking for both the church and the school.

Gotthardt said that no charges have been filed with the police in response to the accident, and it has not yet been determined if the crash was due to a driver error or defective equipment.
