Wow, there's a lot of faculty on that list. Why in the world would you want to announce to everyone that you are queer?

Correct.

There are many faculty on the list.

Most, however, are allies. They are not necessarily "out" as LGBTQ to the world.

Anyone out of the closet is not ashamed to be gay.

Great...our State tax dollars at work. Any reason this could not be funded privately?

Not hostile, just questioning why State tax dollars are being funded for something like this.

Pride Week 2010
Since its inception in the early ’90s, Mason’s Pride observances have grown into a week-long event. Pride Week at Mason has at least two goals: to provide a means for Mason's diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) communities to celebrate, learn from one another, and build community; and to provide education about Mason’s LGBTQ communities. Pride Week events are open to people of all genders and sexual orientations. This year's Pride Week 2010 runs from March 28 through April 3. Scheduled events include workshops exploring intersections between sexuality and race, events about religion and sexuality, the annual Drag Show, and the posting of over 100 signs across campus depicting LGBTQ people in history and current popular culture. Mason's Lambda Alumni Chapter is co-sponsoring an LGBTQ Resource Carnival, in which twenty or so national, community, and campus organizations will come together to share their services.

uh....that's all a little bit much, I think. I mean......it's like they go out of their way to make straight people uncomfortable. A drag show? It was halfway credible-sounding until I read that. These people need to get over themselves.

It's just a bit much. That's all.

I agree. Being gay is one thing, being as flamboyant as humanly possible is another.

Good lord, not this shit again. Homosexuality is already accepted at gmu, if not fully in public, but a full week of this AND walking by posters and students handing out leaflets?

I'd like to see GMU bring back that one event where they had some yard sale in front of Robinson A. I recall buying lots of great cds from this one vendor, and among other junk.

Just read the LGBTQ website. Their message seems to be this:

* When we want your opinion we will tell you what it should be.

* We will do what we want, when we want, and how we want with no consideration to others. All others may do the same as long as we approve.

* We alone will decide what is offensive.

* We will decide when you are offensive and make your life miserable without allowing you any recourse.

This is funny coming from a group who preaches acceptance and tolerance. For all you LGBTQ people...news flash: straight people do not have a phobia about what you do..they just don't like it. Stop it with the stupid phobia shit.
Please don't cry when we have our straight pride week.
