The Fairfax County School Board has elected Ilryong Moon (at-large) as chairman and Tamara Derenak Kaufax (Lee District) as vice chairman for a one-year term. The chair and vice chair assumed office at the July 11 School Board meeting; they are elected by School Board members during the Board’s annual organizational meeting.

Moon served on the School Board from 1995-1999 and from January 2004 to the present. He was elected chairman in 2006 and 2012, and served as vice chairman in 2005 and 2011. A partner with the law firm of Moon, Park, and Associates, he is a former member of the Fairfax County Planning Commission, the Governor’s Urban Policy Task Force, and the Virginia Advisory Committee of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission. Moon earned his juris doctor degree from the William and Mary Law School and his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University.

Derenak Kaufax has served on the School Board since January 2012 and has served as Chair of the School Board's Public Engagement Committee as well as Chair of the Ad Hoc Streamline and Focus Committee in 2013. She is the owner of Altamat Marketing Solutions and has 20 years of experience as a marketing professional and small business owner. A long-time advocate of children’s causes and education issues, Derenak Kaufax formerly served as chair of the Fairfax County Childcare Advisory Council and as a member of the School Board’s Advanced Academic Programs Advisory Committee, the Parent Linkage Committee, Fairfax Citizens for Better Schools, and the Lee District Budget Advisory Council. She was an active member of the PTA in two FCPS elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Derenak Kaufax earned her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.

In addition to the chair and vice chair, members of the Fairfax County School Board, whose terms run from 2012 to 2015, are: Sandy Evans (Mason District), Pat Hynes (Hunter Mill District), Ryan McElveen (at-large), Megan McLaughlin (Braddock District), Patty Reed (Providence District), Elizabeth Schultz (Springfield District), Kathy Smith (Sully District), Dan Storck (Mount Vernon District), Janie Strauss (Dranesville District), and Ted Velkoff (at-large).

Nice title for your post, dickweed. Moon's a good guy; just because he went to Harvard doesn't mean that you need to be so fucking jealous of him.

The man has lived here for decades and yet he cannot pronounce the our common language is any fashion approaching an intelligible level.

School Board meetings need closed captioning with Moonbeam as chair.

There are dozens of other Koreans who have lived in the U.S. for far less time who's pronunciation of the vernacular is completely comprehensible.

When will he show respect to the voters he is supposed to serve and enroll in an FCPS ESL adult education class?

Haha. This is the guy who was nearly charged with a crime for illegally voting at the wrong precinct. You'd think someone with a law degree and political ambitions could figure out something so basic.
