Stimulating Retail at MetroWest

What would you do to stimulate development of retail at MetroWest?
Currently Clarke is indicating that they do not have enough interest from retail establishments. In the short term what alternatives to traditional retail would work?

Food trucks?
Farmer's Market?

Any other ideas?

Who didn't see this coming? This project was a disaster from the get go.

The shutdown web address is because Pulte now has their own site for the development.

To call MetroWest a disaster is short-sighted. The residential has been successful.

The Office demand (or lack there of) is a result of a bad market for office space in No Va.

The retail - is a huge TBD.

The irony of the retail issue is that one of the biggest concerns retailers have about Metrowest is it's lack of vehicular traffic.

Why do you take pleasure in prematurely calling it a disaster?

Who says I take pleasure in it? Anyone who lives in the region should be concerned when developments of this magnitude fail.

Optically it looks like crap to have that out there. Pulte should either pay to put it back up and/or get the other one taken down. What happens when Pulte is done selling homes? Don't you think Metro West should have its own website like the Mosaic?

So successful that they reduced the number of homes being build from the original proposal?

And what did they swap out the homes that they got rid of for?

Again, won't happen. There are a ton of these types of places where the retail portions are sitting empty.

So ironic.

Didn't original plans call for apartments?

Something that gets people to gather -- movies on the lawn, concerts in the parking lot, fountains and seating to gather at. Mosaic has done a lot of this and I think it helps draw people. metroWest needs a stated vision of what it will be and follow through with it so possible tennant can buy into it for the long term. Is there a CURRENT web site that is promoting the site for retail. If not, shame on the builder. Idea: Build a Main Street with nice landscaping, seating, sidewalk on either side, and a central fountain with lots of room to gather for street concerts and other activities. A single level retail for a few blocks could bring 20 storefronts, even if they are "temporary" for a few years. With this complete, the site may look attractive for an office location.
