It's amazing how these Republicans (and really politicians in general) work. They announce they've cut a tax and then go to get gas and guess what? No change, and in fact the gas prices have gone up. It's because they failed to mention that the gas companies can raise the price of gas to whatever they want.

You're a trolling pussy, but like a blind squirrel, you have stumbled upon a nut. As a conservative, I will not vote nor support anyone who voted for McDonnell's tax-rasing fiasco. All of us in FFX County are paying an extra 1% for everything thanks to him and his democrat allies in the legislature.

McDonnell lost ½ his party with this plan, and now has limited support as he tries to serve out his term under the cloud of scandal. His national options in politics are dead.

Don't fault her for her reading comprehension problems. The article just didn't fit her narrative, that's all.

Go to the pump and see for yourself if gas went down 17? Nuff said!

Then decided if republicans and big oil have your best interests or theirs. Big oil gives so many kick backs to the GOP it isn't even funny.

Now the GOP wants to ban electric cars too! I hate fucking greedy ass republicans who don't give a about this country just putting a buck in their back pocket ripping off other Americans to do it. They will stab you in the back in a second!

Well .. the 17.5 cent tax was replaced with a 3.5% wholesale tax. So no matter what I wouldn't expect to see a 17.5 cent reduction. Let's say gas was $3.50 a gallon wholesale (I honestly have no idea how much it really is but this is an example).. let's do some simple math:

$3.50 * 3.5% = .1225 or 12.25 cents. In reality at this price you would see at most a 5 cent drop in gas. If wholesale gas costs more.. then you *potentially* see even less. But exactly, if I am a gas station why would I drop my price? The only reason this really happens is due to competition. If one station wants to pass along the savings, it encourages the others to as well.. since theyre not required to do so.

The entire tiered tax increase is just retarded though. I'm surprised this isn't illegal some how. In any event, does anyone know how they're defining Northern Virginia? Did they just provide a list of zip codes that count as NOVA for the 6% vs 5.3?

Actually fuck wad, it was dropped 17 cents because the new 11 cents shows as a tax per gallon. So what they advertise as the price on the billboards, that should theoretically be 17 cents lower. I wouldnt doubt if we just got an 11 cent increase in the price we pay per gallon because I didnt notice any reduction in the advertised gas rate on the billboards

No dummy, it doesn't work that way. The billboards show the total price/gallon not some price with tax done separately. If it's built into the wholesale price it gets passed along as cost versus tax and doesn't just disappear.

In addition, you ignore the possibility of any increases/decreases in market price alone which may have happened independently otherwise.

I haven't noticed any changes in the gas prices except to go up.

The gas tax should be raised. Gas in America is cheap compared to the damage it does, not to mention the prices in Europe.

Oil is also used to make plastics, if you raise the taxes on oil everything goes up and the economy is thrown into chaos. I agree that the pollution it causes is terrible, but a smooth transition is needed.

Oh god, here we go again about how great Europe is and how much more enlightened and progressive they are compared to us knuckle-dragging, parents' basement dwellers on FFXU.

"it was dropped 17 cents because the new 11 cents shows as a tax per gallon"

Unlike the old tax which was...

wait for it...

per gallon.

Where's the facepalm gif again?

What do you expect from a Governor under investigation by the FBI and the State Police who openly drives around in corporate Ferrari's.

You remind me of Steven Chu. Let's have gas prices like those of Europe... BUT I DON'T OWN A CAR!

When the gas tax drops and the sales (except food) tax goes up, htat's a progressive tax. Those who spend more (evil rich people) pay more tax.

i like how instead of using the ffx county tax money to do anything useful, they're repaving ffx county parkway down by fair lakes where they JUST PAVED IT like 3 MONTHS AGO.

vdot takes stupid to a whole 'nother level.

Right on,Sister. Tax should be same as gas price per gallon.

You have this reversed. Sales tax is regressive.

Sales taxes hit the poor the hardest because they spend more of what they make, and are subject to the tax. People with money are able to save it, and have shelters, thus can avoid the tax on a larger portion of their income.

The argument could be made that lowering the gas tax also favors the rich because they tend to drive larger vehicles which burn more gas per mile. On the other hand, many poor people don't even own a car.

You're clearly a Fox watcher.
