Don't expect any 'timely' responses until 10-10:30pm.....

I would think they'd be overwhelmed by the fireworks calls. How do they decide which one they will respond to?

I was ready to turn the hose on my neighbors, so much ash was landing in my yard, if your going to shoot off the illegal stuff aim it over your own house.

Yeah, the woman dispatcher has a pretty sarcastic tone reporting the fireworks calls. It's funny.

Would be a good time to commit a "real" crime.

You have to be pretty anal to call the cops about fireworks on the 4th of July

Yeah but since fairfax county has laws against certain fireworks, and those fireworks are only realistically going to be used 1 day of the year, isn't it reasonable to expect that the law might get enforced on that one day?

My close friend is an experienced orthopedic surgeon, and one of the country's better hand reconstruction specialists.

I always call him this time of year, and his statements on what he does on July 4th are the same every year. He has a clinic for arthroscopic surgeries and the like, but he doesn't head there. He immediately goes to the hospital emergency room where he has privileges, and stays there, ready for the inevitable crush of business that comes in starting at 6 pm and continuing through the night. His city is lucky to have him.

I know the fireworks in Virginia are supposed to be relatively harmless, but as my physician friend relates, well, there are problems when you rely on products made by prison labor in China. Accordingly, I am happy to let my neighbors maximize use of Chinese exports.

Not when your asshole neighbors are shooting them over your house. Burn your own house down, shitheads. And it's always the rednecks who do this.

So what grade are you in? And I'm sure you only 'try to have a good time one day out of the year'. Do your parents know that you're drinking and/or doing drugs? When was your last arrest? It must feel so good talking back to us like you can't to your parents.

There were many more fireworks shows in our neighborhood tonight than in past years. Seems the good ones came from Pennsylvania, but the best ones came from Ohio.

Kids had a great time eating smores while the dads lit off their shows. All in all, a great night.

Fireworks in our neighborhood were going until 11pm or so.

With all of the rockets going off all around and the good stuff you can get out of state, it wasn't worth fighting the crowds for the big shows and you could drink right in front of your house. It's been raining so much there isn't dry brush or anything that will go up too easily either. I heard explosions well past 11. I don't know why but this is far better than dealing with Rolling Thunder over Memorial Day weekend. Will probably be some more tonight and this weekend. Other than the humidity and no breeze, it was a good night.

There was what appeared to be a major (illegal) fireworks show going on somewhere REAL close to North Slope Drive - the rockets/mortars didn't go as high as a pro display and the uniformity of the explosions wasn't really there, suggesting it wasn't legit - but it went on for quite a while (time from flash til boom suggested that location, not the country club).

Fact: anyone who calls the cops for fireworks on the 4th hates America.

The consumer fireworks from Phantom and similar outlets are pretty good and if you get some neighbors together and pool $500-600 you can put on a solid 30 minute show. We used to gather on the dam at Woodglen Lake which provided good sight lines and no danger of setting houses on fire from the ash.

100% correct.

I was having all sorts of fun with my entire neighborhood, everyone was shooting off illegal fireworks and even shooting pistols some back yards. It was a great Independence Day!
