use of FX county parks by non-residents. FEES

This Clemyjontri Park is in Mclean near Arlington and DC. It is elaborate and was built so children with disabilities had a special place. It gets very crowded. FX should charge admission to non-residents since it is so far beyond standard.

Wow, that is a really shitty idea. Lets make sure disabled kids from Loudon, Arlington, Alexandria and Maryland have to pay to get in. What kind of monster are you? It was funded largely by a private family - they wanted it free for all.

Now run along and go work on your legislation to tax persons with disabilities to pay for curb cuts at intersections...

This park is part of the Fairfax County Park Authority, funded by Fairfax County tax dollars.

If the park has become so popular to out-of-county users, contact the County Supervisor in that district and express your concern.

Non-County residents currently pay higher fees to use some Fairfax County Parks and Amenities. Adding another to the list shouldn't be that difficult.

It's not like the county can't use the extra money

There should be a fee for non-disabled children.

I don't mind that they get in for free as long as the other counties reciprocate and let FFx county residents into their rec centers and such for free.

We should put up a fence and using border guards to stop them from using the park.

What makes you think the non-residents are disabled? Some are - many not. Same for the FX county users. Fact is the location is closer to many pricey neighborhoods in MD, DC, Arlington than any areas in FX.

This is like the people in my office that claim printers and copiers and furniture, like it belongs to them in the first place.

Yeah, charge a fee. We don't want any undesirables using the parks for free.

didnt say all non-residents are disabled - where did you get that? I could live with a fee for out of county residents if there were a disability waiver. If you are disabled or taking your disabled kid/spouse/pet there its free. Non-disabled kids from Bethesda pay a fee - fine. Expect to start getting charged for entry into Glen Echo, Rock Creek Park etc...

I am sure the folks at Fairfax were smart enough to manage to cover construction and operations in perpetuity starting with a 30 million dollar donation of land. That and the vision of the donor:

The sound of laughter and overflowing parking lots attest to the success of Clemyjontri Park, in McLean, in Fairfax County, VA. Bloggers are giving the park a “Five star rating, saying that it is ‘way fun”,” notes Grace E. Fielder, RLA, the park's designer. The innovative park, the first in the country of such size designed specifically for children with disabilities was the vision of Mrs. Adele Lebowitz.

At the beginning of the new millennium, Mrs. Lebowitz offered to turn over to Fairfax County Park Authority, a 18 acre parcel of prime real estate west of Georgetown Pike, land valued at somewhere between $20 to $30 million dollars. Her one restriction on the gift was that the land be used for something priceless—a park for children with disabilities. On October 9, 2006, her vision became a reality and Clemyjontri, the first large scale park that is devoted to the needs of children with disabilities

Personally, I would guess the donor would disable YOU for suggesting charging anyone a fee let alone out of county disabled kids!

Please go back to drowning puppies and leave us alone...
