WTF is biting me in my back yard?

I go into my back yard and within minutes my calves are scratching and covered in welts. It looks and feels like a dozen mosquito bites but there are no damn mosquitos??

I can't see what's biting me. What's the cause?

Not sure if you can see these, but i've got about 12 little no-see-um bites on my hand. While we fish, they bite the hand that holds the pole

I encountered some chiggers in tall grass - they're really, really small and red in color. Here's a link to learn more about them.
