The reason audiophiles prefer gold terminators and connectors over copper or tin is because of galvanic corrosion, not because the gold conducts any better than copper or tin (even though, technically, gold does conduct better).
The electrolytic "rust" that builds up between two contacts can degrade the conductivity. You can save money by using copper connectors, but then you'll need to clean them with a bit of 00 steel wool every few years. (I know, that sounds anal-retentive, but isn't that what being an audiophile is all about??)
