Police Log: Drunk Man Kicks Cop for Waking Him

The Falls Church police department supplied the following incident and arrest information. If an arrest is mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A medical emergency turned violent when an intoxicated man kicked a cop for waking him up.

On June 21, Falls Church City Police officers and sheriff’s deputies were called to the 1100 block of N. Tuckahoe St. for an unresponsive man in the area. Police determined the 22-year-old City of Falls Church resident was intoxicated and when he was awaken, he kicked one of the officers.

The man was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer and public drunkenness.

In separate and unrelated incidents:

A 27-year-old Annandale man was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a blood or breath test in the 400 block of W. Broad St. on June 17.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of graffiti found on the W & OD Trail at Great Falls Street on June 18.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of cash stolen from a parked vehicle in the 300 block of Gundry Dr. on June 17.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Gundry Dr. on June 16.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of a ransacked vehicle in the 200 block of Gundry Dr. on June 17.

A 24-year-old Falls Church man was charged with assaulting a family member in the 6700 block of Wilson Blvd. on June 18.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of stolen vehicle parts in the 400 block of S. Washington St. between June 15-17.

A 47-year-old man with no fixed address was charged with public drunkenness in the 100 block of West St. on June 10.

A 17-year-old Arlington male was charged with trespassing, underage possession of alcohol and possession of marijuana in the 700 block of W. Broad St. on June 19.

A 30-year-old Alexandria man was charged with panhandling in the 1000 block of E. Broad St. on June 19.

A 49-year-old Falls Church man was charged with urinating in public in the 800 block of S. Washington St. on June 20.

A 30-year-old Alexandria man was charged with panhandling in the 1000 block of E. Broad St. on June 21.

A 54-year-old Fairfax man was charged with panhandling in the 1000 block of E. Broad St. on June 21.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of a stolen bicycle in the 6600 block of Wilson Blvd. on June 22.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of destruction of property in the 6700 block of Wilson Blvd. on June 22.

A 40-year-old City of Falls Church man was charged with assaulting a family member in the 100 block of W. Westmoreland Rd. on June 22.

A 40-year-old Arlington woman was charged with driving under the influence in the 6700 block of Wilson Blvd. on June 23.

Falls Church City Police are investigating a report of a stolen firearm from a vehicle in the 100 block of Birch Ave. on June 23.

A 21-year-old Arlington woman was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a false ID in the 400 block of Hillwood Ave. on June 23.

Whats with all the panhandling charges. The courts ruled years ago it was not illegal and a First Amendment right to hassle people for money.

Up to a point, I think if they touch or threaten you then those protections disappear.

No clear answer and every state has different laws, rules and regulations. The Supreme Court provides very little constitutional protection to panhandlers.
