Is Giean Foods getting ready to close some stores?

Is poorly managed Giant Foods getting ready to close some locations with the coming end of the fiscal year? Several of the very long time employees at a Giant I go to have transferred out to another location. Will giant foods still be around in 5 years? Did I hear something about Safeway has plans to expand in the D.C. area?

Ahold Foods will be closing several Giants in the DC area later this year. Several in the Springfield and Burke area will be closed. Giant at Rolling and Old Keene Mill will remain open.

Page A12 of Wapo today had an article on Safeway expanding with 4 more area stores.

Royal Ahold...what a bunch of arrogant Dutchmen...

If it weren't for the United States, they'd be taking German cocks up their shitters to this day...

Royal A-Hole, lol. You can't swing a dead cat around Annandale/Burke/Springfield without hitting a Giant. There is literally one on every corner and if a few closed they would never be missed.

Seems like they are more common than Starbucks, which scaled back as well.

Considering the population shift in those areas I suspect a bunch of bodegas will take their place.

I thought Giant was buying Harris Teeter, and will then be renamed Giant Teeters

The one in the Hamlet Shopping Center on Beauregard St (in Alexandria) just closed permanently two weeks ago. Remember a few years ago, the one at Main and Pickett closed permanently as well. Haven't seen too many open, but a lot of remodels

They closed both the Beauregard one (no loss at all) and the one in the Bradlee Center (near the Chicken Out).

Apparently the one in the Bradlee center is going to be replaced by a "Fresh Market" which I am told is basically a Sutton Place Gourmet - very overpriced and of little actual value.
