High School player playing for 2 teams??
Posted by: Question12 ()
Date: June 09, 2013 07:38PM

When Lucas Belanger cut ties with McLean Youth Soccer’s development academy in late April, the Mount Vernon senior goalkeeper wasn't sure if there would be a place for him on his high school team.
How was Belanger allowed to play for 2 teams?

did someone verify his home addresses? Why did he stop playing for his club team and play for his ghetto ass high school.

Why did he join in Late April when tryouts are done in Late February Early March? I don't think its fair that they won states and that he was main reason why they won. They where 2-4-`1 before he started playing. No way they would of won without him.

Who cares if he's a good player, maybe he transferred.

McLean academy is being shut down, and he's a senior. Academy required no HS play, but since the team is folding, he's probably got his college lined up, there was no reason not to go back to HS soccer. Just a guess.

Academy teams do not allow players to play for their high school team. If its allowed in the rules, his joining the team late is fair to the other teams. I dont know if its fair to the player that was on the team all year and lost his spot.

The rules go out the window when it comes to school spirit and athletics.

Imagine if this happened on the chess team? They'd put a black rook where the sun does not shine.

But this guy knows where he's going-a management position at Vector Marketing.

I bet you will see more of this with the Academy system for soccer. It's an awful lot to ask kids to not be in HS sports, so once they are on a college team (or not) by their senior year (can commit in Feb) you'll see some of the very best kids coming into soccer for only their Senior season. Makes sense for everyone, and it kind of serves the Academy system right for denying the kids HS play.

This is rubbish.

I went to the equivalent of high school outside of the United States. We had physical education but not sports as done in the USA.

I view these sports programs as a HUGE waste of money and they detract from learning. Plus, there have been many scandals associated with them-you just don't see that kind of thing in geometry or literature.

If kids want to "play" sports, let their families pay. I also think that if this happens, the school system should assess a 5-10% charge for administering the whole thing (in addition, of course to making it pay for itself).

"It's an awful lot to ask kids not to be in HS sports" is one of the most laughable things I have ever read. Where does it say HS sports is some kind of right?

100% agree.

Even though I agree with you on getting sports out of schools (where they absolutely do not belong), since sports ARE organized that way in the US and have been for decades, requiring soccer players to not participate in HS sports is like asking them to not go to prom or miss other, fundamental social/development activities from HS years. Why do you think that educators use revocation of sports or activities participation as a tool to control behavior?

Where I went to school we did not have any of this crap-proms, cheerleaders, pep rallies. We do just fine without it.

If the kids don't want to learn, trust me, offering them sports or a prom is a false incentive. Let them fail, let them work at cleaning toilets for the rest of their lives. That will serve as a true incentive.

I repeat my position, if people want to pay for all of this (sports, proms, etc.) let them. Don't ask taxpayers to do it, especially when other services are being cut.

where would he even get time to play for both?

He has time to play for both because he probably doesn't study or go to class.

I'm trying to get meetings with Ed Long and Dr. Garza (new school superintendent) to see what can be done about waste in schools-and that palace they have on Gatehouse is on my list.

I pay $4000 a year in property taxes, what do I get for it? A bunch of kids jumping around and not learning anything, that's what. I'll save the overpaid administrators and "employees of no discernible value for another post…

@Coach, you're kidding right? The game was decided on PKs. He won the game. And they got another McLean academy player mid-season. Changed the course of their season. I know another player who plans to leave their academy team as soon as they have their college offer locked in. It's a bit unfair to change the game in the middle of the season. And like somebody else above said, sad to bump whoever was the starter was from the team who was there the whole time.

And @Coach, being a good athlete does not make a good goalie.

You clearly haven't watched too much soccer around here. At the club level by U13 or so it's probably 1/2 hispanic, even in the 'better' areas. Elite level it's probably 2/3 hispanic, with some teams being coached completely in Spanish.

@goalie..your right, you really dont have to be a good athelete to start in goal, most of the time they take the slow fat kid and throw him back there and then leans out when he gets to high school and his foot skill are not up to par and he is stuck back there.
Speed/Strength, Agility and Quickness make a good athlete. I could take a HS catcher and move him over to be a soccer goalie and he would be successful. Soccer and is a second tier sport in this county, just like Lacrosse. Don’t get mad, you just aren’t getting the best athletes to pick from. When was the last time you heard an elite athlete like Dion Sanders have to pick from playing pro Football or Baseball or Tony Gonzales Basketball/ Football. Soccer is never mention….it’s just not taken seriously here.

Dont tell all the travel soccer parents that! Then they will quit paying me to coach them up! White kids play travel soccer, South American kids play real soccer
