Dead Body found in Greenbriar Blockbuster

My fiancé works in the Greenbriar shopping center and told me that she was informed this morning by the UPS man that the manager of blockbuster was opening up their store this morning and found the dead body of a teenaged boy in the back. There's currently news trucks all over the place. No other information has been provided. If anybody ever frequents that blockbuster you'll know the manager is an older woman who has worked there as long as I can remember (since early 90s). But supposedly she's pretty shook up by this(understandably).

I can confirm this story, as I spent part of today with the family of the man who took his life. I am not sure of any mention of a 'note' but from what I have been told all signs point to a suicide. I am not sure how much information has been cleared for release so I will leave that up to the family - but I will say he was a young man in his early 20's who grew up in the area and was never troubled, and we are all shocked that this has happened.

I don't know about that particular situation, but this happened behind the Blockbuster in Greenbriar as originally reported. It was not a teenager, nor a highschool student. He was in his early 20's but could very well be mistaken for a teenage boy.

o.k, now. Everybody stop. This is not about how "scary" the manager of Greenbriar is, or about the no late fees (we had to bring them back, or we would have gone under. We did it to get the movies back, and make the customers happier.) This is about a life lost. It is true, a body found BEHIND, not IN blockbuster. So, we should stick tothe facts and let it be.

i think someone wanted him dead and started racking up late fees on him. blockbuster is ruthless, they will kill your family if you dont pay those fees.

I come to this sight because I live in the area and like to read the news that doesn't make the news. I also like to read the threads from people who are interested in old places that aren't around anymore. Or just to read the ramblings. But, this thread is pissing me off. Life can really suck and obviously for this young guy it sucked enough to kill himself in an alley behind a video store at a strip mall in NoVA. There's nothing funny about that. Nothing that warrants making juvenile and insensitive jokes about late fees. Put yourself in someone else's shoes every once in a while....

Yea you take your own life my sympathy goes out the window; its sad that he felt inclined to do so, but its even more sad he did not seek help, living in northern va its hard to think of something here that would warrant suicide except for being a weak individual.

Everyone who has joked about this needs to get a life. I hope you get the karma you all deserve.
Matt committed suicide on Monday early morning. No one knows why, he did not leave anything behind. I have known the Craver family for a long time, and they do not deserve the crap all you horrible people are saying. Ever heard of "my thoughts are with you???"
His body was found behind the blockbuster, and his funeral was on Friday. May he rest in peace.

Thanks for posting the info, and I'm sorry about Matthew. I work behind Greenbriar and in our office we were wondering what happened....the police were there for a while....we knew it was not good. We heard it was a suicide, but we never heard anything in the news. I've been wondering who the person was and what the circumstances were...so thank you to the people who posted his name and stuff. I know his family and friends must think of it as a private matter....but on the other hand he put himself and his death plunk in the middle of my daily life and so I do feel affected by it. It's a sad thing. My heart goes out to him and his loved ones.

Thank you for those giving there deepest thoughts to Matt's family. As the minister mentioned, we are not dwelling on why he did this and to try to find an answer. Instead, we are celebrating the amazing life he led.
I work approximately 45 minutes away from the family, and I know I could not concentrate after receiving the news. At times like this though, you do not think about you're at work, or how are you going to get through your day. You think that you just want to be there for the family as much as possible. Matt just turned 23, can you imagine what his mom, dad, sister, and relatives were going through? No one can....I don't think that his family thought of his death as a private matter as EVERYONE has been coming forward to provide their condolensces. It's such a tragic time, but I think his family is doing better, thanks to all their friends and family support.

I just rented "Wristcutters: A Love Story" from Blockbuster (coincidentally). I recommend everyone get off this thread and rent the movie, at least the ending.. well just rent it and see for yourselves.

For all the people who are joking about the situation, did you know Matt personally? Did he harm or alienate any of you? If not, why do you feel compelled to belittle him? Life and death is no joking matter. I didn't know Matt very well. But judging by the number of people who attended his funeral and how devastated everyone was, you can tell that he was a good guy and that he would be missed. If you lost someone you loved, would you want people making these types of comments? Please just leave him alone.

This is kinda off-topic but what's with (what seems to be) a lot of suicides lately? Someone mentioned this weekend that a man with the last name Ball, who has a son at Chantilly High was found dead in the woods last week. Apparently he committed suicide. How sad it all is.
