Two Die in Fatal Crash
Reston Police District – Fairfax County Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place on the Fairfax County Parkway in the early morning hours of June 1.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 24-year-old man drove from the southbound into the northbound lanes near Wiehle Avenue around 1:45 a.m. and struck a taxi cab head on. Both passengers in the taxi, men ages 29 and 34, died on scene. The suspect driver and taxi cab driver (47-year-old man) were transported to the hospital and are in serious condition.
Detectives are investigating whether speed and alcohol may be factors involving the at-fault driver of the crash and two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter charges are pending. Identifications are being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
The southbound lanes of the Fairfax County Parkway have been re-opened; however the northbound may be closed for the ongoing investigation.

Two Die in Fatal Crash
Reston Police District – Fairfax County Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place on the Fairfax County Parkway in the early morning hours of June 1.

Reston Police District – Police have identified the individuals involved in the fatal crash this morning and are releasing additional details.
The cab driver is a 47-year-old Herndon man who was driving his 2009 Nissan Altima Red Top taxi northbound in the left lane of the Fairfax County Parkway. Although the taxi driver swerved slightly to avoid being struck by the 2004 Chevy Trailblazer that was travelling at an excessive speed towards him, the head-on crash occurred as both vehicles approached the intersection of Sugarland Valley Drive.
The passengers in the taxi were not wearing seatbelts and died on scene. Both passengers, ages 29 and 34, were living in Sterling together. Their families have not been located or notified at this time; their families reside outside of the United States. The taxi driver was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he remains in serious, life-threatening condition.
The driver of the Chevy is in non-life threatening condition at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He has been identified as Manuel Alejandro Jimenez Benitez, 24 of Rolling Fork Circle, Herndon. Police have charged him with two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and he will be transported to the Adult Detention Center following his release from the hospital.
Crash Reconstruction Detectives have indicated preliminarily that they believe speed and alcohol on the part of Jimenez Benitez are contributing factors to the crash.

A Nissan Altima being used as a taxi? If I called for a cab and a Nissan Altima showed up, I would call the cab company and tell them to send something with a back seat that a reasonable person could actually fit into.

I have heard some many stories like this .....late at night 2003, people coming back from Weddings, getting struck @ I-395/Seminary. Last year... Rte 1. /FFX Co Parkway....apparenlty they need to translate and bombard Don't Drive and Drink on Spanish Channels, just like those stupid political election ads that play every ONE minute close to election days.....

The two young men killed had been out paryting and did the responsible thing and took a cab home so as not to be a danger of the road. The killer, driving the wrong way and stumbling drunk, has more than traffic violations. I don't know if he was here illegally, but for God's sake, when will this stop?? One minor infarction and your ass neeeds to be shipped back to wherever the hell you came from.

It's very sad how ignorant grown adults can be. He is 100% legal. It's obsolete reasoning to pass judgement on ones legal status based upon their given name. Alejandro was a kind-hearted gentleman, about to graduate from George Mason with his Master's in Business Administration. He was a pleasure to work with and be around, i've never heard a bad thing about him. When he finds out what he has done, he won't be able to burden the guilt, but he has too. It's shockening and tragic for all victims and their families involved. Drinking and Driving is a sad disgrace that is often taken lightly among young adults. I can assure many of you commenting on this forum have made the mistake of driving under the influence. I will never wrap my head around how alcohol is so commonly used/accepted, yet is causes such devastation. Before you judge, remember, it could be you, your mom, your dad, brother, sister, daughter, son, etc... Preach against drinking and driving BOTTOM LINE, don't preach racist comments. My Prayers are with the victims & their families, I also send my prayers to Alejandro and his family, for I know this tradgedy is something his heart will never be able to bear. He and his family will carry the burden forever.

Look below to see what a 'wonderful human being" this miscreant is. His first DUI in 2011 was not enough for him. No he ignored the suspension of his license and drove anyway (and was caught). Busted for pot. Spent this spring getting pulled over for various violations. I truly hope the judge takes all this into account when sentencing Mr. Benitez for killing two people.

We all make mistakes but this guy obviously did not think any of the rules applied to him. Moving violations - happens to all of us. DUI sadly this happens too much too. Ignoring the DUI suspension and getting caught because he was too stupid to get his car fixed so it could pass inspection - wtf?!? After getting caught driving on a suspended lic. continuing to do it and getting caught again (again because he was so stupid he had defective equipment while driving on a suspended lic.) -wtf?!? Then the grand finale, killing two people partying and taking a cab to protect others and be responsible. What a great guy!
