Bravo Fairfax, Time to bring South Lakes to Capacity

In an age where efficiency is critical to the success of our schools, the boundaries are finally going to be analyzed. Those not in favor of having their kids to go South Lakes are racists. When their smart urchins go to South Lakes the test scores will come up, what is to worry about?

Bravo Fairfax County School Board! We finally enter a new age of winning back our schools and lifting all boats at tonight's school board meeting.

I commend the School Board and their re-districting choices. Finally our county schools will be utilized correctly and my tax dollars used appropriately!

Why didn't the school board do this years ago?

pgens - be careful of taking the efficiency argument too far - given the 20 year track record of South Lakes, and projection of declining enrollment in years to come at all schools, that could very well justify the closing of South Lakes entirely. And if one believes the notion that disadvantaged kids do better in less concentrated environments, they would be better off dispersed to remaining local schools in distributional blocks. I say this not in defense of this position, but that if your focus is just on efficiencies and money, it can lead to arguments that you surely would not like. The real focus should be on how to get South Lakes to have excellent academic programs that people clamor to enter. They are not there yet, although it seems trending in the right direction.

We just spent $12 million remodeling South Lakes so I doubt we are going to close it soon.

No, but if no one goes to it it will be turned into a second TJHSST

I will bet you that the parents that raise enough of a fuss will be able to send their kids where ever they want. It will just cost the county more money but they have never cared about that before so why now?
