Is this the real reason for the school board to redistrict more good students to South Lakes to rescue them by robbering other people's house value?

Yes, I can personally attest to the decline of SL High School. I am a student there. I recently transfered from Arlington County.

The bathrooms smell like cigarettes and marijuana which is shocking.

When I first enrolled in the school I felt like I was at college. No, not because of the academics but rather being the target of several groups trying to recruit me into their organization, or fraternities. Except in this case, these were not frats, but gang members urging my participation in their "clicks" as they call them.

It's like you either join a gang or you're nothing. Try to be a good kid, get good grades, behave yourself -- no, that doesn't fly at SL.

I have friends. Not many, but a few. They're also mostly new to the area. As one of them stated to me several weeks ago -- "SL High is like prison. You better F*uck someone up your first day or you'll get made into someone's bitch".

There are constantly fights in the hallway where even administrators are afraid to intervene - they do not get paid enough to get hurt in the process of breaking up a fight. They are not police officers and have no training in dispersing a crowd or dealing with a physical altercation. I feel sorry for the teachers here. It is just a big huge mess and observing this fiasco train wreck of an educational experiment gone horribly wrong makes me sick to my stomach.

Pray for South Lakes.

Does SL have School Resource Officers (FCPD) onsite? Do they do anything about the fights? They should...

Ranking is going back up this year. SL had a 35% increase on the local challenge index published last week. Besides, last year they were 859 out of over 27,000 high schools ranked in the study, which placed them in the top 3% of schools in the study. Nice try, though.

The Newsweek ranking is shit. It is based on the percentage of students pushed into taking IB and AP exams. The criteria has no bearing on whether or not kids are actually learning.

If you want to know how a school is doing, look up its SOL scores on GreatSchools.net. The SOL scores aren't perfect, but they at least allow you to measure one school against another.

If you want to know how school is doing - look how many people who went to that school actually graduated from college.

FCPS has no such statistics. But they do have the percentage of kids going to 4 year colleges, by high school.

I don't shop at any grocery store. I am completely self sufficient.

I grow all my own vegetables and spices. I have a few cows for milk. And, I have pigs which I fatten up and then, wham.......loin of pork for dinner.
I have a bunch of chickens running around for eggs and ofcourse, dinner. They're alot easier to whack than the pigs, let me tell you.
