The Newsweek ranking is shit. It is based on the percentage of students pushed into taking IB and AP exams. The criteria has no bearing on whether or not kids are actually learning.
If you want to know how a school is doing, look up its SOL scores on GreatSchools.net. The SOL scores aren't perfect, but they at least allow you to measure one school against another.
