Reston Metro - WTF is going on

Metrorail users will have trouble driving to the WIehle station area, especially during peak periods, and pedestrians and bicyclists will face delays, greater hardships, and greater risk of injury as a result of the delayed action on road, transit, pedestrian, and bicycling improvements in this station area.

Fairly typical, Board of Supervisors, County Master Plan Board, etc. give developers whatever they want and then figure out a way for the taxpayers to foot the bill for this clusterf...and the joy of living in Fairfax County.

Bigger is "better". As long as construction is seen (sign of progress and money) and people are visible in mass. they see dollar signs. None of this is actually about making things convenient for us.

What a mess. They had years to prepare for this. The metro will open to great fanfare then everybody will see how much it sucks without the surrounding infrastructure improvements.
Ridership will suffer - so let's double the toll road rates a couple more times to force people onto the metro and pay for what should have been done before opening day.

Can you believe they are going to close the free commuter parking lot on Sunset Hills Road near Weihle Avenue? They want to force people to use the paid parking at Metro instead.
Don't know what they will put where the parking lots are.

Okay, so what is the main take away from this post?
Not all 32 of those improvements are specific to Wiehle, as is quite clear in the diagram. With that said a bunch of them are fairly simple. 12 of the 32 (as in 37.5%) of the projects are Crosswalks. I don't have a PhD in urban planning & development, but something tells me these aren't going to take years to do & even with that they aren't going to save most people time. If anything they'll probably slow vehicle traffic down. A bunch of the others are "Sidewalk" projects. In many cases these are in spots where it's probably grass or dirt right now. It'll make it better to walk on, push strollers, etc but won't drastically change much either in terms of hand waving and worrying about traffic.
