Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a budget on Tuesday that increases taxes and cuts spending. The tax hike will mean about a $200 increase per year for the average homeowner. The hike is lower than the amount originally proposed by the county executive. The new budget cuts spending by county agencies more than $20 million and there will be no pay increases for county employees.
Board of Supervisors chairman Sharon Bulova, a Democrat, says the tax increase and budget cuts were necessary to close a projected $169 million deficit created by decreased revenue in the slow economy. Republican Supervisor John Cook, who also voted in favor of the budget, says it a compromise and that inaction by Congress stifled the growth of county businesses that rely on federal government contracts.

Bachelor for life but not renter for life. I have a nice paying job which I could buy a place and call my own but doing the math it just comes out cheaper for me to rent plus my job entails travelling quite a bit so owning a place would not really work out. Lets see no real estate tax, no maintenance for upkeep of a dwelling, no HOA, no homeowner's insurance(I do have renter's insurance but that is way cheaper than homeowner's).
I guess you could say that I actually do pay all this in my rent but for $800/month to live in a single family house AND still get cable, heat, a/c, private bathroom, electric, washer/dryer.............YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT IT!!! Still it's really just a room. I don't go about the house such as living room, dining room, kitchen. I have my own private entrance to the basement. Hell, I can't even really remember when I saw the upstairs.
