any recommendation for radon mitigation companies?

Got a reading of 8.4 in my basement. Need some recommendations for reliable and low cost radon abatement companies. TIA

Yup - one the worst cases of far-reaching False Science yet.

Studies done on cancer rates of uranium miners. THAT'S the correlation of radon to cancer.

Same with asbestos. Things like this can be a problem in particular circumstances but once the lawyers get hold of it and then the abatement contractors things get blown all out of proportion.

They tried for a while with mold too but there's no deep pockets for that so it didn't take off as well.

@OP-The only advice I have was something a realtor told me years ago: Open the basement windows and run a fan for 24 hours.

For your average person on the street encountering stray particles perhaps. If you had to work with that shit in the form of insullation it was another story. In the 1960s they used to blow that stuff on, creating asbestos clouds...and of course nobody wore masks back then. Depending on the form, removing it can pose the same dangers. Human lungs weren't designed to have a bunch of crap dumped into them.

Call Radon Control Professionals in Reston. I moved into a new home in Oakton last August..winter radon reading was 14. Took several bids...they were not the cheapest but best in terms of experience and approach as I wanted a solution that was not displeasing to the eye (ie mounted on ourside of the home). Had them come out two months back and they installed a very large fan (and did the PVC run from the basement and through the garage attic). Did a retest two weeks back and the radon level dropped to 0.2 which is lower than the air outside.

Asbestos and radon are KNOWN carcingens. Asbestos is still present is older structures, residentail and commercial, however it does not pose a health hazard unless you disturb it and inhale the fibers. Radon is hard to avoid..it is in the air...best to do a test and get it remediated.
