Helicopter in Reston

There has been a helicopter circling the South Lakes area in Reston for at least a half hour now. It's driving me crazy!

Actually that is not the reason the helicopter is circling. You just re-posted the original question.

Good job Cap't Obvious. But the REAL reason the helicopter is circling is because there has been a helicopter circling the South Lakes area in Reston for at least a half hour now. It's driving you crazy.

I was just pointing that your response provided no accurate information. Just internet noise.

It's not driving me crazy. The helicopter can circle Fairfax County all it wants. It has worked wonders in rescue operations and transporting near fatal injuries. How the helicopter lands in some spots is amazing to me. In many robberies suspects have been caught by use of the helicopter.

The most likely scenarios for the helicopter circling an area are:

a) There has been a robbery or an assault in the area and the officer believes the helicopter will be able to locate the suspect.

b) There is some large group of people and they took off running when the police showed up.

c) There is a missing person reported in the area.

The helicopter is equipped with night vision and infrared vision. The helicopter can spot heat sources in the woods or warm cars that have recently been driven.

The helicopter has been very successful in the past locating hidden suspects in wooded areas. I would give more details about how the helicopter is effective but I don't want criminals to know exactly how the search operations work.

In this case I don't know the exact reason the helicopter was circling. My guess would be a robbery.

south lakes is a shitty area, so the cops need the helocopter to help them catch the shitbags around you. just deal with it or move.

A local contractor has been hiring illegals and murdering them at the end of their shift to avoid paying them. FCPD received a tip that the bodies were being hidden at the Reston Zoo.

It is mapping the tent cities buried in the woods in tree-rich Reston areas. The Census Bureau will need to hire more "door to door" canvassers for the next census to be able to accurately report on all the homeless in the land.
