8 Grocery Stores, Ten 7-11's...

9 Grocery Stores, Ten 7-11's, 10 drug stores (CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens), 11 Chinese Food "Restaurants", 13 Fast Food joints and Approximately 27 (Twenty-Fucking-Seven) Banks...

That's what is within an 8 mile radius of my house.

Is this entirely necessary? Is there anyone who lives in this area that hasn't been more than 5 minutes from "convenience"?

Is this progress?

I know, I should just leave. Cool Story Bro, etc, etc.

This place is a fucking disease.

There is a small shopping center near me. It has seven banks counting the one in Safeway. Thanks to my paycheck being direct deposit and bill pay online I havent set a foot in a bank in two years. I wonder what most of their business is since I see few people going in them.

Every one of these businesses provides jobs. If you had your way the economy would be even worse....

Agree. The only reason we "need" more jobs here is because we "need" more people. The only reason we "need" more people is because we "need" to grow to support more businesses, keep growing housing prices higher, etc., and pay more taxes. None of which we really "need" to do other than to keep the growth pyramid scheme going. At some point we're going to have to go with a more responsible approach. Or not and just keep at it until the area is a complete mess.

And, no, I'm not some eco-nut. I'm a business guy. But you can't keep packing people in and ignoring effects on quality of life aspects. This used to be a nice, medium-sized area where you could actually get out and do things without sitting in traffic or waiting in lines forever and having a million other knuckleheads in your way.

It isn't how many of these businesses are within an 8 mile radius of your home. It is how many PEOPLE are living within an 8 mile radius of your home. Although in all likelihood 27 banks is a bit much.
