Police Urge Victims to Come Forward;
Composite Sketch Released
Franconia Police District – Detectives were made aware of a fifth fondling incident in the Springfield area that took place on Wednesday, September 19. A 40-year-old woman reported that she was walking along Hibbling Avenue near Exmore Street when she heard someone behind her. As she turned to see why he didn’t pass, he grabbed and groped her as she struggled free. The suspect then fled.
She described him as Hispanic, in his 30’s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with dark eyes and a neatly trimmed beard. She said he wore a black and white bandana with designs on it, black nylon pants with two blue stripes down the sides, a blue long sleeved shirt and black shoes.
Detectives believe that there may be additional victims and incidents that have gone unreported and urge women to contact police if they have encountered this suspect.
UPDATE: Another Teen Assaulted
Franconia Police District – A 15-year-old girl reported that she was grabbed from behind and fondled around 7:15 p.m. in the 6200 block of Hibbling Avenue in Springfield on Tuesday, October 2. The girl was walking northbound on Hibbling near Exmore Street when the incident occurred. After she was grabbed, she pulled away from the suspect and fled.
Police are investigating whether or not this assault may be linked to three other similar incidents that took place in September.
Springfield-area Fondling Cases May be Linked
Franconia Police District – A 17-year-old girl was grabbed from behind and fondled around 9 a.m. in the 5900 block of Erving Street on Thursday, September 27. The woman was walking on the sidewalk when the assault occurred. Police believe this assault may be linked to two other similar incidents that took place in September. In each of these the suspect wore a plain, red baseball cap.
She described the suspect as either Asian or Hispanic, mid 30s, around 5 feet 8 inches tall with a black, close-cut beard. He wore a blue T-shirt, black cotton sweatpants with a white stripe on each side and a red baseball cap.
On September 18, a 16-year-old student was walking on a path in the 6700 block of Metropolitan Center Drive in Springfield around 2:45 p.m. when she was grabbed. The suspect fondled her and ran away. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male with a thin, black goatee or beard. He wore a red baseball cap, blue jeans, and a white T-shirt.
On September 7, a 26-year-old woman was walking in the area of Old Keene Mill Road and Springfield Boulevard around 8:30 a.m. when she heard a whistle. When she reached the 7200 block of Monticello Boulevard a man grabbed her from behind and fondled her. The man fled.
She described the suspect as Hispanic, and around 5 feet 6 inches tall. He wore a red baseball cap.
None of the victims required medical attention.
