Anyone remember this store on Church Street?

Hi- My brother and I were recently racking our brains over the name of a store that our Mom used to take us to in the 70s and early 80s. It was located on Church Street near Lawyer's, on the right side of the street as you faced the post office. It was a funky small place that sold jeans (basically Levis) and he remembers flannel shirts as well. I thought the name was something like Sammy's or Sonny's (no, not Sonny's Surplus) but he doesn't think so. Please, does anyone else remember this store and what it was called, as it's driving us crazy! Thanks - Kelly

I believe it was called Curly's? It was in front of the Post Office's old location.

Moron and kelly - thanks so much! Of course, Curly's! Also, I completely forgot that the P.O. was located on Church before it opened on Lawyers. Do you remember what year it moved?

I'm guessing that the PO moved sometime in the 80's.

I'm not sure if there was another Curly's. I was pretty much a young lad back then. I do remember that was one of the few places that carried Levi's back then.

The Post Office (tecgnically, by that point, the Postal Service) moved to its present location after 1974, possibly in 1975 or 1976.

As for Curly's, that building was originally a church, even up through the 1920s or 1930s. Sometime after the War (WW2, that is), possibly in the 1950s or very early 1960s, it became the clothing store that most folks who grew up in Vienna during that time recall from their youth.

I worked there in the late 60's. We sold painters pants for $2.98 and at the end of the day we burned the trash in the back parking lot. WE sold pants up to over size 60 waist and the customers were so large that they had to take the pants home to try on. The owners were the Morgans. It was a great job for a HS student!

Yes, it was Curlys, owned and operated by the Morgans. I attended James Madison High School just down the street. I had a acouple of classes with Billy Morgan, their son. He was a Ham Radio operator. Our home was just south of where Oakton High is now.
