Part of his plea deal. When he gets sentenced in June, he will get let off with time served, the rest will be suspended.

You're probably right about that but at least he won't be polluting the Fairfax City government anymore.

Yeah, but all of his cronies and yes men are still on the City Council, including the new mayor.

Attorney Drummond stated "He’s gainfully employed..."

What exactly has Scott been doing for a living since his arrest?

The reports say he worked for a hardware store in Bethesda.

This is a tragic story of addiction and cover up and should send a message to all that high functioning addicts are among us every day.

No one I know was aware that Scott was addicted to meth and was living an alternate lifestyle while fully engaged as a civic leader and representative of the people of the City of Fairfax... including his inner circle of council members and city staff who worked with him every day. Whether you agree with his politics or leadership direction, I think most reading this would agree that he gave no cues that pointed to a serious addiction.

Scott should not end up in jail, but he should also not be allowed to skate until he has proven that he can fully function without his addictions. He needs help and should be compelled to get the necessary help as part of his sentencing. Not community service, but real time in a rehab center dedicated to court ordered patients.

Unfortunately, Fairfax County does not have treatment centers for criminal addiction that I'm aware of and the FX County courts most often are very reluctant to dole out jail time for victimless crimes by a first offender.

I've know Scott since he was first elected to the city council twenty years ago and I wish him well, but I really wish he and others like him could get the help they truly need to reset their lives and once again become productive in the main stream.

All drug addicts deserve a modicum of compassion and sympathy..up to a point. I don't believe for a second that some higher ups in the City government didn't know what he was doing. He was outed on FFXU for Chrissake....SOMEBODY knew something. As far as setting politics aside in exchange for human compassion....okay. The question is more than just one mayor covering up his deviant, illegal behavior. What else, pray tell, is being covered up?? There is still a strong stench of mismanagement and corruption lingering over our fair city.

I'm not suggesting compassion and sympathy... I'm saying he needs to be incarcerated in a psychiatric hospital, not jail and unforfunately I really don't think either will happen. I'll bet a dollar to your dime he get time served and community service which puts him right back to where he was before all this happened and makes it highly likely it will bappen again.

As far as his administration is concerned, maybe I'm missing something, but I've seen no evidence of anything bad. In fact, I think the city is in as good a place today as it was when I moved in in the 80s. What am I missing?

If those who were close to him are now saying they knew nothing of what he was doing, why have they deleted on face book and other places any knowledge of knowing him and doing fun things with him. Some of these individuals actually took vacations with him as she indicated to us on face book, and now will only tell those that ask that they knew him by being on the City Council only - no lunches, dinners or vacations with him. I am sure that is the reason everything was done through the County and not the City as far as meeting up with him on the meth bust.

How soon we all forget.

Even the Washington Post article about his arrest stated there were episode(s) in the past. Anyone working for the city police dept in 2007 and those on council in the same year were privy to one incident. Meth is a bad drug and recidivism is up towards 90%.

Scott actively would choose who his "colleagues" on council were, many who are sitting on council now. Unfortunately, there is no rehab for them, just the need to vote them out and present decent city people to run for these seats.

Too bad there isn't a rehab for his cronies.

Yep crazy like a fox.

Why did I just get solicited by a member of council to give funds for Scott's phone account?

If only the crackheads were shown so much compassion!

Now everyone is supposed to feel sorry for these junkies killing themselves with meth and heroin. Fuck em! Falling out in public! Overdosing in public in front of their children! Disgusting, the lot of them! Fucking up their bodies so bad they are declared disabled and then get a disability check every month! Fuck them and their junkie bodies!!!

Drugs are ugly, but almost always a symptom of bigger problems of the addict. Anyone watching with a discernible eye could see Silverthorne had problems that were bigger than his choice of lifestyle. His talents were used to divide and conquer, pulling vulnerable people into his circle of influence. Those are tge ones we hear stating how "great" he was as a public servant.
It's not only short sighted but a selfish perspective to have when considering what's best for the city overall.
The problem is many are not being honest with themselves. The old ladies who jump on the Save Scott! bandwagon are more pathetic than he ever was. His lawyer is part of this group and that may explain why he went to court ill prepared for what many local criminal attorneys knew -- plead to the felony and you will be incarcerated. The fact that this shocked his inner groupies is telling.

I didn't vote for the sitting mayor, but he made a good point when he stated in August (immediately following Silverthorne's arrest) that the city is bigger than any one person. I just hope the group identifying as "empaths" for Silverthorne wake up and use their passion to make the city whole again. It will take some time and some work.
