Wegmans customers

I work at Wegmans, and I'm very curious about the phenomenon of how people around here shop.

They can be behind me, or at a distance out of my line of sight, and all they'll do when they want to find something is name the product at me. How am I supposed to know they're talking to me? How am I supposed to know it's a question? Unfortunately, I usually do. But it's messed up.

Why do they want to park their carts in the entrance to the aisle so that nobody else can get in?

Why do they park on one side of the stuff I'm working on (usually dead-center) and then shop on the other side, effectively blocking the whole aisle?

Why do they see two sides to go down and always choose the side I'm standing on, forcing me to move? When they do that, usually they don't buy anything from the aisle or else want to shop way farther down where it doesn't matter which side they picked.

I don't know, it's just freaking weird. I'm tired of it and seriously seeking alternative employment. What a bunch of idiots.

I don't work there but know exactly what you're talking about.
I shop there frequently and have noticed that Wegman's seems to
attract a rather arrogant and self absorbed clientele. I've
worked retail before so I know how to spot the "get out of my way"
or "look who I am" customers. If you really want look at those who
think their shit doesn't stink, hang out in the wine section for
a few minutes.

I've noticed the same thing. They're giving the Whole Foods crowd a run for "Most Pretentious Shopper Award".

This type of douchebaggery is also perpertrated in the lower end markets too.

It is the same type of self entitled rudeness demonstrated on the road and in the gym as well.

I used to work at Wegman's and I have to say, what you're talking about is one of the reasons I left. The type of people who seem to flock to this store are incredibly arrogant and rude. I don't understand the phenomenon of talking down to and insulting the staff; I suppose it's because most of these people have never had a job like this before, where we have to deal with the public all day. Even when I was younger I never talked down to people the way I've been talked down to while employed by this store.

I worked there while I was going though school to be a Paramedic, but all they see is someone behind a register. The dichotomy was interesting, honestly. I get immediate and usually unquestioning respect when I'm on shift with the FRD, but when I was in my Wegman's uniform, it was the absolute opposite, 75% of the time.

The Saturday Farmers Market in Fairfax City isn't much different.

Before you b***ch abut customers and their carts blocking the aisle, have you ever tried a simple "Excuse Me?" Works every time.

Yes, actually I have, only to receive the stink eye and moan. These aisle hogs get their panties in a twist when anyone speaks up to them.

I am from Buffalo and love Wegmans! I do not find the customers there to be any more rude than any other store in NOVA. I may accidently block something while I am focused, when I notice I fix it or apologize if someone has to say excuse me. Wegmans is so awesome I sometimes get distracted at new displays, sorry. I have worked in a grocery store and respect the employees, it is hard work!
