My ex-brother-in-law's name was "Bobby". He was about 5' nothin' and joined the Marines because of his Napoleon complex which just added to how much of a douchebag he was to begin with. Now I hear he is into MMA (the next logical step, I suppose). He drives a purple Scion xA, you know - the little one that looks like a cheese wedge. I waved him through a stop sign with my middle finger a couple months back from atop my SUV. He'd always get butt-hurt when I complained about hitting my head on things hanging from the ceiling. He met a girl in Australia and convinced her to come to the US and marry her. They had a son and shortly thereafter he started cheating on her (as he had done to every other girl he'd been in a "relationship" with). He is also a big fan of not paying child support payments to the girl he knocked up just after high school. I've always wanted to see what a fight between the two of us would look like, as I am over a foot taller than he is and weigh probably 75lbs more than he does.

Let me know if he's in any MMA competitions. One of my friends has been training years for it, and he just started fighting in tournaments last Fall. He's fairly big too, so maybe we can cook the books and get them to square up with eachother in the ring. Even if he's small though, I still wouldn't discount a Marine.

Marine, yes, but he was a parts mechanic...As in the real mechanics and flight crew would remove faulty parts from MH-53's and send them off to get fixed and he was the one sitting in closet with a screwdriver fixing them. I'd be more likely to credit his MMA training (nothing to sneeze at) than any Marine training.

It reminds me of my loony neighbor who's out of the Corps now. He always acted tough as hell, trying to show off for everyone in the neighborhood. I chalked it up to him simply being a Marine, and I was cool with him, but then he really started being a complete asshole eventually. Then I realized something, he was JAG. Basically, he had a real chip on his shoulder to impress people. The guys whom I've known who were involved in Wars and/or combat oriented fields never showed off like that.

Just for the record, and to inform the people who only learn about foreign affairs by watching 24 or whatever, there are very few former service members who served in the last 8 years who have not been in a combat zone.

Even before 9/11, "academic" oriented "military intelligence" officers, like in CID or DIA were deployed overseas doing covert ops in places like Somalia, Kuwait/Iraq, Pakistan, etc.

Priests, Lawyers, Signals operations techs, Surgeons, cooks, mechanics, toilet scrubbers, ditch diggers, and even professional military musicians have been in combat situations, have lost limbs, have been shot at, blown up and otherwise hated upon by dirty brown arab islamic obama lovers.

But I get where you are going with this. The only real man is a grunt who carries a 100 pound pack and a rifle into combat, and everyone else is a loser just dying to impress everyone.

I was aviation too as has been posted all over this forum. I carried a starbucks cup and a PMCS manual in Afghanistan. If you actually served in the military you'd know that there are some MOSs that don't deploy to combat zones. Google the difference between AVIM and AVUM aviation maintenance jobs. They use google on TV, right? You should know how to do it then..

The MOS I was in usually got strategic assignments, and yes, we were called REMFs by the combat arms folks. Even when we did deploy, we got to be in air conditioned tents most of the time because of the equipment we were using.
