Again, no one comparing a cop to a soldier. I'm not sure how many people become cops because they can't get any other job but when a lot of these departments require bachelors degrees... Prince William Police Department pay is decent for the area, the hours are actually pretty damn good. You don't become a cop with the expectation of never getting your hands dirty, you're going to deal with dodgey folk. Any job that grants excessive power tends to draw authoritarians.

I still would rather have a sane person inside with some knowledge of how to use a firearm, than a cop sitting in his car waiting for the situation to play itself out. As has been pointed out, in almost all of these crazy mass shootings, the cops did nothing until it was over or the shooter offed himself. They didnt save any lives with their "superior combat situation weapons training" you believe they have.

As opposed to having a "resource officer" there? The fact is their occupation deals with things of this nature and a school faculties does not. I'll take an individual who does it for a living over a hobbyist any day.

A resource officer doesnt deal with shooters any more than the janitor does until one shows up. I can only comment the ones I went to school with and they definitely prevented some dodgey shit. Dealing with an active shooter is more than point and shoot. A paper target doesn't induce stress and it's side effects and paper target doesn't shoot back.

Then you're talking about basic firearms handling, if you're going to train someone to adequately respond to something like an active shooter you have to put them through courses.
Rotate the officers already on the force, a day a week as a resource officer. Merely a schedule shuffle.

I have a feeling Chicago will go the route of DC. Technically allowing it but in reality making it such a drawn out expensive process that its a de-facto ban from the administrative side. Someone did an article about getting a gun in DC it was something like several hundred dollars and 6 months of considerable effort to finally get permission to buy a hand gun.
I am glad to see someone in Detroit wising up though. I wonder how long the new Chief will hold that position though once the Mayor and City Council has a talk with him. Then again it got so bad there they may be desperate enough to put ideology aside.

Theres plenty of densely populated areas with low crime. It has very little to do with just population density and why people look at crime rate per 100k people to control for that.
Fairfax county is heavily populated, crime is basically non existent. Crime is heavily concentrated to certain areas even in the worst cities.

Yes, they have low crime but eliminate them and plenty of stats will decline, the more densely populated an area is the more confrontation arises. Fairfax is not comparable to a city like Denver, New York, etc.
Stab, you also seem caught up on the monetary issue despite the fact that in proposed a resource allocation shift, I said nothing about taxes or employing more police.
