Gun Control Doesn't Work to Reduce Suicides, According to the AIHW

In 1996, Australia Banned and Confiscated Nearly All Modern Firearms. According to data collected by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare(AIHW):
In the 18 years before the gun ban (1978-1996) there was a total of 36,376 suicides for a mean rate of 12.24
In the 18 years after the gun ban (1997-2015) there was a total of 46,387 suicides for a mean rate of 12.67

Although the slight increase in the rate is statistically insignificant, there was a 27.52% increase in the total number of suicides during the 18 years after the gun ban.

It is obvious the gun ban had no effect on suicides. Hangings merely replaced guns as the most common method of suicide.

There is no "history" of the law "failing." You're just pulling that out of your ass. But more to the point laws are not "solutions" nor are they intended to be. Gun or any other laws do not solve or prevent anything or provide any "harm reduction." They simply serve as a legal basis for later prosecution for violations of the law after the fact and provide whatever associated deterrent effect that may have. And now you understand why gun laws don't work other than to the extent that law-abiding people follow them. Which isn't the group of concern with regard to "harm reduction."

Therefore, you’re over three times less likely to be killed in a room filled with concealed carry holders than police officers.

The burden of proof is on the gun control activists. Their assertion is that more guns equal more crime, that concealed carry means “shoot-outs in the streets” and deranged “gun nuts” looking to kill people, and that there’s a “gun violence epidemic” that needs to be addressed. But looking at the numbers from the CDC, I don’t see it. Gun sales have gone through the roof in the last eight years, and at worst the numbers for firearm related deaths are stable. At best, they’re declining. Not one single metric that I could find indicated that gun owners were anything less than model citizens, and that gun ownership is not the root of all evil.

The best confirmation of this comes not from any study or calculation, but from the opinions of the American people themselves. Support for gun control is at an all time low. In 1996, Australia Banned and Confiscated Nearly All Modern Firearms. According to data collected by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW):
In the 18 years before the gun ban (1978-1996) there was a total of 36,376 suicides for a mean rate of 12.24
In the 18 years after the gun ban (1997-2015) there was a total of 46,387 suicides for a mean rate of 12.67

Although the slight increase in the rate is statistically insignificant, there was a 27.52% increase in the total number of suicides during the 18 years after the gun ban.

It is obvious the gun ban had no effect on suicides. Hangings merely replaced guns as the most common method of suicide.
