Well, a person with a 90+ IQ might try a lawyer, but if I were you, I would defend it yourself. I could use the entertainment, so be sure to post the trial date.

A person with a 90+ IQ also may have included more details so people could have more to think on when offering suggestions.

Dammit if you want legal help and advice then get a fucking lawyer. Otherwise lay off the speed and don't break the law. What a fucking dumbass... is this fairfaxfreelegaladvicebyREALlawyersunderground.com?

Cary, I think we need a forum off the home page that is dedicated to traffic violation advice. Then all the violators can congregate there and share their success/failure stories, which actually wouldn't be a bad consolidated base of information to have. I'd suggest making it a subforum under Off Topic but then people won't see it right away and there will be more thread moving pains.

im just amazed at how many people decide to come here to ask about tickets. what makes it so weird is that none of them seem to know that this is talked about all the time and somehow conclude a search would be a complete waste of time. either that or we have a lot of lazy people that i would prefer be skinned alive.

If the traffic stop was pretty straight-forward and you were really doing 80mph then you really have no arguement to try to defend yourself.

A laywer can help you by getting the ticket knocked down from reckless driving, or maybe better but don't count on it. You just don't want reckless driving tickets on your record.

Don't worry about it. Just ignore the ticket. Police have more important things to do than worry about people who ignore speeding tickets. Tear up the ticket, have another drink, and relax. You're welcome!

#1 plead guilty

#2 say it was your first time (if it was)
and beleived no one was in danger (if that's true)

#3 say you will never do it again
(unless your lying - then do NOT say so)

the judge has no time for stories - even saying you though no one is in danger is adding more to what you can say than you maybe should

i'm supposing there is a mandatory appearance

if not - just pay the fine

there is a "court day fine" (a fee for actually having used a the courthouse), so you'll save money if you can pre-pay and not waste the court's time with your drivel

You can get jail time in some counties. A reckless driving ticket could keep you from getting more than a few jobs. (my company wouldn't hire you. Insurance requirements) It also stays on your record for ten years. Hiring a lawyer is expensive, but it may be cheaper than the possible repercussions down the road. A judge will treat your lawyer much differentially than you. You chose poorly once. Don't compound your mistake. Good luck.

A good lawyer can get it knocked down to a non-demerit offense such as "defective equipment." It will cost a couple hundred dollars, but it is worth it opposed to getting a serious offense and a hefty hike in your insurance rates.

There is no mandatory appearance if you get a lawyer to represent you. DO NOT PAY ONLINE until consulting with a lawyer. Pre-paying online is admitting your guilt and forfeiting the right to a court date.
