[edit] History

The NVSL was started 51 years ago with 11 teams (which are all still active today). The pools were Annandale, Chesterbrook, Freedom Park, Hollin Hills, Lee-Graham, Little Hunting Park, Springfield, Tuckahoe and Woodley.

[edit] Rules and stuff

Some basic things are- There are two types of meets, "B" meets and "A" meets. B meets are often reffered to as developmental meets, where the not so great swimmers can swim and try out strokes and all swimmers can race for qualifying times for "A" meets. The A meets are the competitve ones where you swim for points for your team. There's also the relay carnival, where the relay teams (similar to a relay in running) compete. The team with the most combined points from the meets and relay carnival wins their division.

[edit] Divisions

There are 18 divisions, 1 being the best and 18 being the worst. Generally the team that wins their divison goes up a division.

[edit] Comments

Swim team is a great thing to enroll your kids in, the team spirit is great and it's a great atmosphere for the summer. Check your nearest pool and ask about swim team.
