The Juvenile Detention Center is a 121 bed facility. It houses youth up to age 17 under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, or in special cases, the Circuit Court of Fairfax County. Typically, the total daily population ranges from 80-95 youth.

It contains eleven separate units, each capable of holding eleven youth in single person rooms. Two of the units are currently not used. The primary function of the facility to hold youth pending adjudication or sentencing for class one misdemeanors or felonies. Some youth may be serving sentences up to 30 days. One unit of the facility houses the "Beta" unit, in which sentences can last up to six months.

The facility houses both males and females. Attached, but run seperately, is the Less Secure Shelter. This is a non-secure facility offering temporary housing to court-involved youth. It has a rated capacity of 14 youth.
