America Online, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Warner (NYSE:TWX). AOL, as they are known, employ anywhere from 15,000 to 17,000 people at any given time. The company has frequent reorganizations and what could be called a "two-year layoff cycle." That is to say, every few years, AOL sheds some number of its staff -- in 2002, 700 people were let go, in 2004, 500 people were let go.

AOL has two main campuses in the northern Virginia area. The first and primary campus is located off of route 28 on waxpool road. The second is located on Sunrise Valley Drive, in an unmarked red brick building. They share a parking lot in Reston with Raytheon and Nextel/Sprint.
