Cary's got a sticky post over in the Fairfax County General forum explaining what happened. Basically, someone tried to jack him for $100 and when he didn't cough up the dough (or the bitcoin, to be specific), they unleashed a botnet on FFXU that conducted a massive DDoS attack. In simplest terms, there were all of a sudden hundreds, if not thousands of computers trying to get to FFXU, which c

There were lots of derailments in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The siding at Ravensworth, which is now within Lake Accotink park, was a favorite for wanna-be train robbers. In January 1947, a train derailed in Burke and a flying rail decapitated

J.C. Penney on Friday published a list of the 138 stores they will be closing in June in an attempt to help their struggling bottom line. The closures, announced in February, are expected to start with liquidation sales on April 17, and will displace about 5,000 workers. The only Virginia stores that will be closing are the ones at the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg and the Tanglewood

Do you mean a house/neighborhood within the Town of Herndon, or just with a Herndon zip code? Once they opened up the Oak Hill post office, a whole bunch of places that formerly used Herndon mailing addresses switched to using Oak Hill instead, because having a Herndon address was harmful to their real estate values. Stepping back a few decades, the Town of Herndon and Fairfax County did a land

My theory is they use Glasgow Middle School as a landmark, since it backs right up against the Holmes Run Stream Valley Park. They probably park there, then march the victims into the woods and stab them to death, so there's no gunshots to alert anyone.

The news conference basically rehashed the announcement already made. Last night they found two bodies about 300 yards into the park, but they're waiting on the ME to make a forensic identification. The search was prompted by a tip, but they're not saying where the tip came from. Roessler didn't confirm it's MS-13, but it's gang activity. They don't have suspects, so they're hoping people in

That's Rock Hill, and there's a fairly serious drop between the west end of the curve, which has an elevation of 300 feet, and the east, which is only 250 feet. The straight-line distance between the two ends is only about 500 feet, so if you do a little calculation, a road that went straight through would have a grade of about 10%, which is unsafely steep. To improve the grade, you have two ch

The current working theory is that Reyes Rivas was used as a honeypot, along with another female, to lure 21-year-old Christian Alexander Sosa Rivas of Fairfax to his death in Prince William County in January. Evidently, Sosa Rivas was claiming to be the leader of an MS-13 clique, but a few other clique leaders doubted he had a valid franchise and contacted MS-13 leaders in El Salvador. They sai
