Around Christmas, I was approached by a man begging for money in an aisle at the Shopper's grocery store in Seven Corners. I gave him some, but he seemed suspicious. I surveilled him for about 15 minutes and figured out he was part of a professional team of con men operating in the store. I pointed it out to the store manager, and they chased them away, (They should have called the cops, I th

I tried Lazeeza Kabob in Merrifield this past weekend. I had a gyro sandwich, not the kabobs, though. It's some kind of Pakistani place, I think - there is a big Indian influence, but it's not Indian. I liked the kind of bread here better than most places I've eaten in NoVa. The gyro was good. Will be back to try more things. http://www.merrifieldkabob.com/

If I understand correctly, there were no shots fired at any time. As part of a training exercise, a Coast Guard officer transmitted a radio message to someone else participating in the exercise. The message was "Bang, bang. We have just fired 10 shots." Some CNN news reporter was monitoring a radio and overheard this, paniced, and started making phone calls to the Pentagon. They didn't know wh

We're having at meeting at the Mason Government Center in Annandale this Thursday. Come on by and see what VCDL is like and meet people. Fun and social, and you will make the CMP contact that you are looking for and have the opportunity to learn all kinds of things that might interest you. Afterwards many of us go get a burger at a nearby restaurant.

According to a friend of mine who came from Boston to participate, the license for the event was for 10,000 people. It started at 11:00 AM, but by 8:00 AM there were over 11,000 people gathering. The organizers and National Park Service had to completely reconfigure the event at that point. According to the NPS, there were over 1 million people. I have not heard the 2 million people figure f

This reminded me to send Safeway a complaint letter I've been thinking about for a long time. (Because they keep sending me "please come back we haven't seen you" emails. I used to use their delivery service all the time.) Having gotten around to writing it, I can now unsubscribe from Safeway. I tried to send it to their web site, but that's broken! Figures. So I printed it and stuck it in a

"Obstruction" requires that you physically obstruct a police officer (we're talking about laying hands on them or such - a physical assault). Growing up around here, I've shopped at Safeway a lot in the past 50 years. But I recently tore up my Safeway loyalty card and stopped using their delivery service. My experience with the manager of the Safeway in Bailey's Crossroads, where they were failing to refrigerate meat, turned me against them. I hope the chain fails as quickly as possible and is replaced by Wegman's or anything. I re

I remember there used to be "Sambo's" (aka Little Black Sambo's) which changed its named to "The Jolly Tiger". I believe that was the one that became Denny's in Fairfax. I think I remember Aunt Jemima's existing somewhere and being excited that the syrup had a restaurant to go with it. But I have no specific recollection of a location. Little Black Sambo was a storybook I read as a small chi

Chris Core was an arrogant nutjob who expressed as how he himself should be allowed to posess guns secretly, because he was IMPORTANT, but that ordinary people should not have them unless they were willing to have their names and addresses published so that the public would be "protected". Good Fucking Riddance, Chris Core.

Weird, my message detailing the identity of the assailant (who is on probation in Florida for an assault in 2007) appears to have been removed from the forum? Also the one with the information about Mr. Zingg (before his response). Some other posts are missing, too. This topic used to be 2 pages. Maybe I, at least, have been violating some forum rules that I don't know about. Or else the for

I received a note back from Mr. Zingg, who was Mr. Blythe's assistant at the school, some considerable time prior to the incident. When I contacted him, I said I'd post his response on the forum; here it is in it's entirety. Quote Your anger over the video is understandable. However, I had already left Mr. Blythe's school approx 8 months earlier and moved to WV to start my own school and do my
