Wait a second, are you reading too much in your own mind? I don't think I hear a lot of people say they know what's the best for SL last night? Instead, the punch line I heard quite a few times is "we don't know what the right answer is, but we know RD is not the right answer". Like I said earlier, RD is purely a facility method, and should be done under solid foundation, with good data/cost ana

Prove the forced RD is the only thing can help SL, Since when RD becomes means to improve one particular school? And the claim "we need to move forward because there's not enough time left" is not quite rational either, for an RD at least. An RD needs to be carefully examined, well planned -- so that a few years later, people won't come back to RD meetings because the current one screwed up. Ma

Maybe IBV has a different definition of diversity? Isn't that so obvious how diversified the CAPS parents are? And this, if diversity is the goal of this RD, can someone explain where is Langley? Is this double standard? Oakton Parent Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > IBVeritas, > > You should be ashamed of yourself for labelling > people don't don't

Thanks, forgot about that. When CAPS parents presented, they did mention they took 80% of the age group because high school spans four years. Maybe IB program should provide more rigid training in logic, scientific reading? Sorry can't help being sarcastic. Maybe or maybe not and the trend is going down, plus no one is preying on communities for that matter. "Where are all the 5-9 year olds going who should be matriculating to Westfield and Chantilly and Oakton? Are your districts experiencing a mass exodus as well? According the the 5-9 year old projections for Westfield, for example, there should be 4,100 students enrolled. "

SLV, Before spreading incorrect information, please list your data source and rationale. What makes you think if you said again and again "CAPS incorrect" and claim SB knows what they said is incorrect? Are you implying SB listens to specific groups and believe them without a blink? If in fact, some of it is incorrect, why are you not pointing it out, which at least will stop the spread? Instead

SLV, Why don't you do some research before you make any assumptions? Floris GT kids stay with Floris, when the choice's available. "Additionally, when children of those Floris parents are recommended for GT centers not in their Floris community, do they keep them back because of the psychological trauma of being separated from their friends?"

Old Timer, The quality of the school definitely matters. I agree, an "advantaged" kids will turn out fine anywhere -- it's not because these kids automatically inherit the success, rather ,in a school that doesn't offers the regular programs (aka AP), it's the parents who will have to put in a LOT more efforts to amend what the school supposedly to do. And THAT's why the kids will be fine.

IBVeritas, The original post is about "IB is not as recognized in US as AP". You change the subject to how many kids can take that many AP classes, and went on to babble it's so wrong to push them. Please do not switch the topic, if you want to make an argument.

Can someone explain, why with at least seemingly enough teachers, classes cannot be offered to a lower number of students, say 10 per class in SL? Seems nobody objects that there seem to be plenty of tearchers in SL? Would the county/school rather see the tearchers idle than offering a class?

Well, I don't see a strong correspondence b/t op5 and the comments of op1-4. Did you see anywhere the staff explains *how* did they jump from A to B? It's funny that they have to tweak the criterias slightly, so that the fact they are creating a new split feeder will not appear to fail their objective? You mentioned "The > community meeting process itself, moreover, was > overwhelmingly do

Hoo Tribe, Lacking of students is one of the symptoms, but not the cause of the challenges. Maybe I didn't ask the right question, I'd like to see a discussion outside of the mindset of RD, as FoxMill Dad is trying to find a win-win solution for everyone. Make sense? Do you agree RD is not the only solution in the world to help SLH?

SLVerity, The difference b/t McNair and SLH similar neighbourhood IS the high school. People will not make their choice based on the playgrounds. If you just want to hide in the sand, what makes you think dragging more people in, will help? I think my previous example may be buried: if an underperforming kid blames others and thinks if he gets whatever his neighbour has, he'll be good and satisf

Well, I did a queick search at homedatabase.com to get an idea how expensive RTC's condos are. For sale today, in entire 20171 for anything below 300k, there are 15 units on market, for Reston (20190) 45 units. So there are enough affordable housing in RTC area. Why people with kids don't show up there but in McNair or any other neighbouring area IS something people wants to help SLH need to inve

Please explain why McNair, which consists of mostly condos, town homes, and subsidized living units, doesn't have under-enrollment. If you choose not to face the issue, I can't say anything else. But if you have an open mind, please see your self. Maybe we can start a list on what can really address SLH's issues. "South Lakes challenges are that it does not have enough high school students in its current boundaries, and that it has a much higher percentage of students on FRL than its near neighbors. Increasing those boundaries, by adding the closest neighborhoods with lower percentages of FRL is exactly the way to address those challenges. What kind of analysis has done as WHY the school is under enroll

booya, If I have to move, it's because of I'm forced *unfairly* to go to a HS that's not my choice, it's because the communities are SPLIT, dissected by the RD. The whole RD process is not really help SLH either, except for the 7% or so IB diploma students. Why shall I bother to go there, if it's not the best choise for my kids, and there are not many choices other than IB any ways. Get it? booy

Do we have actual numbers/analysis that other options can not solve the SLH issue? How can the act of picking the relative powerless communities like Floris, better helps SLH? Someone mentioned some 20 years ago, some Madison communities were redistricted to Marshall. Well, 20 years later, Marshall is yet to become a desired school district -- how many real estate ads do you see boasting "desir

Restonian, My school age children DO NOT have any friends from Reston, except the ones through PARENTS connection. Fair enough? Friends they made from going to school each day, vs. the ones they see a few times a month or a year are not the same. Maybe it's true for North Reston folks that they share a lot of church, sports activities in Reston, but it's not true for Floris communities. Reston

Old Timer, The county's suddenly found magic number of students for each high school is buried for some 20 years, when population is much less. How do you explain no one raise the 'recommendation' when Westfield is built at 2500 capacity, and expand at 3100 capacity? If 600 or so empty seats in SLH is a waste of tax payer's money, how about 500-600 empty seats in Westfield? If you add double bus

I can see how this redistricting will benefit "advantaged" children in SLH. But I can't see how it'll benefit the "disadvantaged" portion of students in SLH, as statistically, they are getting less help towards them, percentage wise. No I'm not talking about extracurriculum bunch, but academics, the stuff will really help them be successful in the future. Is there a voice for these children in
