There is/was police activity along Burke Rd. between the sharp curve and Rolling Rd. I went by there this morning just before 8 and traffic was being turned around. Saw lots of PD and FD there. Also saw the command unit and SWAT unit pulling up, escorted by the motorcycle cops.

In West Springfield there is a store you may like. I cannot remember the name but it is in the center with Whole Foods on Old Keene Mill Rd and Rolling Rd. They have a lot of brightly colored "artsy" decorations for the home. Does anyone know the name?

I will second tirerack.com. I ordered from them about a month ago and had the tires in two days. Just take to your local mechanic for installation. And the tires were "new", manfactured just a few months ago.

This morning I hear just a bit of Elliot in the Morning and it sounded like Flounder got arrested while doing an on-air bit for the show. Now they are playing the "best of". Was Flounder's arrest this morning also best of, or did something happen today? Just curious.

I also noticed that the tire store fronting Little River in the Trader Joe's center closed down as well. I think it was Firestone. Just wondering if all these places have left on their own, or is the owner of the center not renewing leases in order to do some type of different development/configuration in that area. I would agree that serious reconfigurations of the parking lots would be neede

Cedar Cafe in the Shoppers Plaza (Burke) has great Lebanese food. The only bad part is that it is a very small with a few tables. Great food though.

Just to correct a typo, it is Saturday, not Sunday. And I agree, they have wonderful produce there. I go almost every weekend. Back in '93, we were in the same position you are in now. My wife bought her condo at the hight of the late 80's market, and when we were ready to buy a house, we could not afford to sell the condo. We rented it out for 7 years or so until the market came back. We did not make any money month to month, but we did break even. You are lucky in that Virginia is a very friendly state for landlor

That would really suck as traffic is already horrendous in that shopping center. They definitely need to reconfigure the parking to help make it flow more smoothly. Fortunately the intersection of 236 & Pickett has improved vastly since they added the extra lanes. I just cannot see that center handling the extra traffic a BestBuy would bring.

ECHO is Springfield is always looking for volunteers. Pretty sure they are not open on weekends. Local schools always need help. YOu could volunteer to work directly with the kids or help out in the library. Public libraries also need volunteers as well. There is also that center on Braddock Rd @ Burke Station Rd. that houses mentally challenged people.

I looked into it a few years back when I had to replace my tank. Basically, it was not worth it. It would have cost so much to re-route the gas and water lines that it would have taken many years to recoup my costs. If I were building new I might consider it.

ECHO in Springfield is a great organization. They are 100% volunteer staffed. No one gets paid. They are on Old Keene Mill Rd just across from the K-Mart. I do not beleive that they are open on Saturday. You can check them out at www.echo-inc.org.

I have a car question. I just got my Toyota Highlander back from the body shop. It has been hit in the rear and required around 7K to fix (other guy's insurance took care of it). What bothers me is that the frame was bent. They replaced the "rear body rear crossmember" and the "Rear floor sidemember ext" and put it on some machine to return it to its original dimensions. Aside from the car h

I was just over at the shopping center on Pickett Rd. and noticed a lot of Fire Dept. trucks racing down Pickett Rd from 236 towards the tank farm area. Then it occured to me that there was a strong smell of gasoline in the area, which I have never noticed before. Wondering if there was a leak over at the tank farm.

One time I got off because my daughter was throwing up. The officer asked me why I was going so fast (50 in a 35) so I told him. He takes a look at my daughter in the back seat with her head in a bag and just tells me to be careful. I must say all of my run-ins with officers in this area in the past 19 years have been good. There was more than once when I should have been given a ticket and w

Trixie, We took our two daughters, 9 & 11 to see it over the weekend. They both really enjoyed the movie. I was glad to see that the character did not lose her 'geekieness" after moving to LA. All in all I thougt it was a good movie for young girls. The release of the movie was great timing as my youngest has just discovered the book series. As a grown up, I thought it was just okay. I

There are a vast number of trailers used as classrooms around Fairfax County. If a tree were to fall on one of them the results most likely would be tragic. The trailers do not have the structural integrity of regular brick and mortar classrooms. Given the large amount of rain yesterday and the extremely high winds today, makes this an unusual situations and I do not believe it is an overreact
