A shotgun is much more powerful, and much easier to shoot- mainly because it's a shoulder arm, not because of the multiple pellets. Be aware that at the ranges you'd use a shotgun in a home, the shot doesn't spread very far- think the size of a fist, or maybe larger if you fired down a hallway, but there's no "cone of death." You have to aim, just not as precisely as with a rifle.
