Traffic here is horrible, and there are plenty of completely ignorant drivers; but in my estimation, there's no place with worse drivers than Florida. Old people + high speed = OMFG.

God forbid people actually try to get an education and work to make a better life for themselves. I know there are plenty of people who need help, but there are also a shitload of them who are capable of helping themselves--at least to some degree--but choose not to. It's easier to blame everyone else for their plight, and seek easier ways to make (or steal) a buck. I know some of them personally

Overall crime in Centreville really isn't that bad. It has its problems from time to time, as others have pointed out; but it's hardly a town with what one might call "mean streets." As someone who grew up in PG County (Hyattsville in the mid 70s, and then Laurel until the mid 90s), I can attest that it's like Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood compared to many of those areas in MD--which have only gotten

Funny enough, I grew up in PG county... and now live in Centreville. Maybe I'm the problem, afterall.

They probably were just feeder fish, Meeper; that hadn't occurred to me. As far as animal cruelty, I wasn't thinking so much about that as I was simply not wanting to see the bag explode like a water balloon all over me. Most shoppers wouldn't toss a dozen eggs onto the counter, because they want them to be intact when the get home. I'd expect the same to hold true for a large bag of water (fil

I had to go to PetSmart this morning to pick up dog food, and while I'm in the checkout line, I notice a shopping cart pulling in behind me. I placed the little divider thingamabob on the belt to separate my items from the next customer's, and suddenly I hear what I can only describe as a splashy thud as the first item is tossed up--it's a bag of goldfish. Fortunately, it didn't break. I've neve

I'll pass, thanks. Since you've got the time to kill, though, feel free to track down whoever wrote the article (or the Indy police). Perhaps they can answer the open carry/concealed question definitively--not that it matters at this point... it would just a sidebar to a story that had a positive outcome for a change.

That he did so with a valid gun permit makes it even better. Given that he had the permit, I'm guessing the gun h

Speaking of stopping for pedestrians, two of the least pedestrian-friendly shopping centers are Fair Lakes and Union Mill. Fair Lakes had to finally resort to a series of stop signs and crosswalks, because so many drivers simply fail to let people cross. It's doubly annoying when you stop to allow a pedestrian to cross--only to have them stop in the middle of the street, because the asshole driv

This is probably true. But it also begs the question of what happened with the victim in the original topic of this thread--he was openly carrying, and was robbed of the very weapon that was supposed to

And Sammy, you can take your openly carried firearm, your crude attitude, and your poor typing skills and pound them all up your ass. It might be more difficult than it sounds, however, as you're obviously full of shit. Next.

Actually, there was one wordy, technical link on Virgina code posted before brianl703 posted the story from the Washington Post--after which, I didn't question the legality of it again. Just because Dirty Harry decides to quote one of my earliest posts on the subject doesn't mean I'm still denying that it's true. The million links you speak of rolled in after the fact.

I'd buy it; but hearing the likes of George Michael and co. repeatedly say "...and the Natives are restless, folks!" would get old very fast. Of course, it'd also be painfully ironic that the Washington Natives aren't really "native" to Washington at all, playing in scenic Landover, MD.

Very good to know. Even with it being completely legal, I'd also be afraid that an officer would go circus freak crazy if he saw a handgun sitting in plain view during a routine traffic stop. With that in mind, having the permit to legally carry it in the glove box has to be the best option.

Very interesting stuff... I still wouldn't feel comfortable walking around in public with an open sidearm--only for fear that someone would call the police, and cops who aren't familiar with this law would respond and taser me into a vegetative state.
