I think the Giant Music was in the shopping center at the corner of Linconia Road and Rte 236, just west of I-395. The Landmark Shopping Center was on the east side of I-395. There's a "Ross Dress for Less" store there now. Am I right??

I agree that many dealers are going to try to rip you off. They are in the buisness of making a profit, not paying you a fair price. Consignments are an OK way to go, but you need to name an informed price and selling the gun may take many months. If it were me, I would sell off any guns that (law abiding, Virgina resident) friends or relatives particularly wanted, and then auction the rest. T

Attached is 1885 USGS map of the Annandale area. I don't see any evidence of a railroad cut, but I guess it's possible.

Handy-Dandy Market #2 was in the original "town" of Burke, across from the fire station, about where the post office is today. I'm not sure about the location of the third store.

I would definitely recommend Carter Brothers. I've had several fences installed by them over the last ten years and was always satisfied with their work and their prices. Long Fence installed our first fence, which started rotting and falling apart after about 7 years. I would never use them again.

I worked at one of the regional parks in the area for several summers in the early 1970s, and every summer the Gypsy caravan would come rolling in to the park campground. They had Winnebagos, trailers, pickups w/ campers, etc and traveled in a pack. Their clothing was exactly as you've described. They'd stay about a week and invariably the thefts, petty crimes and break-ins in the park would skyr

Here's a very good place to find local fishing information. Click on the "fishing report" tab. The report is usually updated weekly, but is a little behind this week. http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeqbewt/index.html

In addition to gleaning what you can from this forum, I strongly urge you to post the same question on the "City Data - Northern Virginia Forum". It's a forum specifically designed for people moving (or considering a move) to a given geographic area. Give it a try: http://www.city-data.com/forum/northern-virginia/

And the Fairfax County Board of County Supervisors has the second-largest electorate in the state. Only the Governor's electorate is larger. Pity we don't have more influence in Richmond!

>Interesting - so based on your experience, people who should not be in the water (can't swim, not healthy enough, etc.) are more likely to frequent public facilities provided for free or subsidized rates, but are less likely to be found where you have to pay the market rate of a private facility. ________________ Correct: - The market rate for swimming for a day at a public pool is proba

NO, that is NOT what I meant. What I meant was that staff are usually treated with more respect at a public pool. You are not beholden to the "pool committee" of

I have used Northern Virginia Gun Works in Springfield. They are true craftsmen, but not cheap. Definitely a first rate shop. https://plus.google.com/114154104040620500412/about?gl=us&hl=en http://www.insiderpages.com/b/3722746296/northern-virginia-gun-works-springfield

I would also check with the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. Maybe Prince William and Arlington, too. Their pay is competitive with the private companies and they treat their employees a whole lot better.

Many of the Safeway stores in the area sell dry ice. The dry ice storage freezer is usually at the front of the store, near the service desk and the cash registers.

The entire Fairfax County Parkway is a four lane road constructed on enough right-of-way for six lanes. Ultimately the parkway will be widened to six lanes with a Jersey barrier down the median and a closed drainage system (instead of the grassy swale in the median). But this will be tremendously expensive and isn't going to happen anytime soon. And forget HOV lanes or toll lanes until every inte

VDOT will pick up the dead animal ~IF~ it's within the state right-of-way. Often on rural roads this is only 30' wide (15' on either side of the centerline). If the animal is outside the state right-of-way, then it's the private property owner's responsibility to dispose of it.
