I know pictures of the Freeman Store in Vienna have been posted, but, I don't think this one has. It's from the Shorpy.com website, and I had to shrink it down from the full size so it wasn't 36 terabytes, (give or take a few kilobytes).

Then and now. This is a picture of the old Falls Church Bank. It was on the South West corner of Broad St. (Rt. 7) where it intersected with Washington St. (Rt. 29). It's directly across the street from Brown's Hardware, which has been there for over 100 years. (They're my go-to hardware store.) The first picture was taken about 1910, the second one in February 1949, and obviously the Googlemobi

OK, since we're posting pictures that are not truly from Fairfax County, but at least related to them, I thought that people might be interested in this one. It's a photo taken from the dome of the Capitol building in DC, looking due west toward where we are now. The Mall as we know it didn't exist yet. This is the caption for the photo: "When this photo was taken around 1870, the Mall still had

As I posted on the "Weekend" thread: If you have never heard of Eva Cassidy before, she was born and raised on the other side of the river, only a few miles away. She played in various music venues in this area, including Mick Fleetwood's place, when he had one in Alexandria. Her version of this song has been known to bring grown men to tears, myself included. And if you listen to it, you will u

A house in what is now Falls Church City. It was still a part of Fairfax County for most of it's existence, so I think it deserves an inclusion here. Built around 1840, it was on a huge piece of land that had about 1/4 mile front yard down to Broad Street. Let's just say that the property is a bit smaller today. This first picture is obviously an old historic one, and the second picture is from

A few gas station "freebies". Do any places still offer any of these for free like they used to? You might be able to pick up a calendar for next year, and a cheap ice scraper at some places though still.

I guess most people don't know that we do have an old fault line running through the area. It actually happens to run straight down Interstate 66 between the Beltway and Rt. 7, before it turns north toward McLean and into Maryland. It's called the Plummer's Island Thrust Fault. Sorry the pictures don't really line up, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
