Ok, what goes on at Filmdex
Posted by: Ren Höek ()

On Rt. 29. past Pleasant Valley road is an innocuous establishment called Filmdex. What goes on there? I have live in Centreville for almost ten years and have never seen a person on the grounds, but the grounds are well maintained. I am sure they are shooting porn. Well, actually, that is just a hope. If you google them you will find a website, but it has not been updated since the Hoover administration. It may be those lizard people from the series "V".

Dude, the website is pretty fucking clear as to what they do. They make and sell photographic supplies.

If the site was made in 1999, and the company makes the exact same products, has been at the exact same location, and has changed zero of the things listed on the site, why change the site? An old site construction date does not make the presented info less valid.

These companies like HP that have a new site every month just for vanity, when the orginal worked just fine, are just spending money to waste it.

I asked the same question a while back. There is *sometimes* a Mitsubishi Montero parked out front :-) Someone said they still run the business out of the main building- but I believe the entire structure used to be Centreville Motel, in the 60's.

I have lived here a while as well and decided to look it up and think its realy funny that there are others like me that ask that same question, "What is Filmdex?"

Filmdex is "apparently" a movie splicing place. There is one on 29 and one in Chantilly. It says no trespassing on the front. I have read many websites saying it is a government building. There is a church next door, and one of the church officials told me it is an interrogation building...so i dont know how much is truth and how much isn't...but that's what I know

Way back in the day, some stores that took checks had a system where your photo was taken along with a photo of the check (the original photo ID). Filmdex made that system. My guess is they probably still handle microfilm or microfiche records for financial institutions, hence the security.

The building does handle microfilm, that's all it does. It's probably better to get it out of your mind, a few of my friends and myself have been wondering about this for a while. The man from the curch probably heard the rumor of pornographic conduction so he said it was used for interrogation to scare children like us away.

A guy I worked with said he put in a LOT of telecommunications lines and equipment into the far end of the hotel looking part years ago. He claims they wouldn't let him go inside and that nothing could be seen.

Heard from others that its a gov't building. Either a safe house or interrogation.

If one were to go to the FFX County tax map database they'd find the address for Filmdex to be 15500 Lee Hwy. The current legal owner is "Ida L Slattery" who purchased the property in 1978 for $250,000. It's still listed as a commercial property. There is no record of who she bought it from.

If you google Ida Slattery you'll find she's the contact person for Filmdex, Inc. 703-631-0600

Filmdex is a microfilm processing facility. It also sells film and developing chemicals and supplies. Yes the photo ID check system was developed by them. It was the only photo/check documentation that was allowed in evedence in a court proceding as it took a photo of the check(document) and the holder on the same frame of film. (It was a dual lense camera)
Because the film was stored in a library the security of a chain link fence (NO BARBED WIRE!!) was necessary.
The main office of the Company has moved to Chantilly but the old Broadmoor Motel location is the shipping/receiving warehouse for products and supplies. There are regular shipments by freight and UPS still going on there.
The post by m4ilm4n is accurate.
This link will explain the dual lens camera.
http://www.filmdex.com/brochure.shtml
If you go to www.filmdex.com and mouse over the products you will see some of the stuff they sell.
Enjoy
oh...and one of my favorite quotes.....
"There's nothing more sad than the death of an illusion"
It's NOT CIA or porn or anything covert!!

This "former employee's" description is just plausible enough to have us believe it at face value. Obviously it is subterfuge and was posted by either Ron Jeremy or Michael Hayden.

The website is fantastic. It's like a step back in time. I'm more impressed that they took the time to scan their 1978 pictures (lady in front of check) and upload them to their 2001 website. You'd think they'd use some stock photography.
I agree though, even the fake wood wall she's standing in front of looks very porn-esc.

So, if you called, what did they say after Hello? I still totally believe it's a cover up for either porn, or CIA film processing. Having lived 5 minutes from the facility for 19 years, I have seen cars or people maybe 5 times, and never, ever any delieveries from UPS or such. The fact the website is such crap, and they don't just sell the property (which is worthy a pretty bundle I might add) simple doesn't add up.

I dont know what she said, I hung up...lol. I'm not good at faking calls :( I completely agree with you- that place looks fairly run down and I'm sure the land is worth a lot. For an area trying to reduce blight and build new everything, I'm shocked they havent sold yet. I have only seen a car out there maybe once. Never any activity. It just doesnt add up...if they have another facility in Chantilly, they can easily ship/receive from there. Besides, where do they store everything, in each motel room?

Also....if you check the FFX County Gov't website's tax assessments, the property (main house) is not listed. Also, if you google the address of the actual house, nothing comes up either. -?-

Hey,
I can tell you that it IS actually a porn filming location. I worked a set there in 1983. But they're not just any old porn company. Oh no. They specialize in bondage and S&M, and to make it more realistic, all actors have to agree in writing to be bound, gagged, kept in cages, and otherwise be completely dominated and abused for two weeks time prior to the scripted filming, and that all of that time may be filmed and later edited into the movie. That's why their S&M porn was so realistic-looking. And they still get away with calling them "actors." And that's why you don't see anyone go in or out - you can't leave "campus" as they call it for three weeks at a time, and there's a hidden entrance you guys don't know about.

I met my wife on set there.

Now we work in real estate.

If it is just a film processing plant so be it. So let me ask this since this place has a little cult following what if I get the owner to let me make it into a huge halloween scare fest house... who would be interested? I bet I can make that place even more creepy especially at night. Email me bobbya0719@gmail.com

Ok, I went there today. I took pictures of the property and the buildings. There is no hidden entrance. The entire property is fenced with signs. The main house looks lived in. There are things inside you can see from the driveway. The bushes have been recently cut and the grass is cut. There are a few 18 wheel trailers on the property and one of them has an open side door with unrecognizable crap in it. The motel part is closed up meaning no open doors or windows. There is either a major water leak coming from the motel building on one end in the back or a spring has finally reached the surface. If this place was associated with government at all, I would have had an encounter with a cop. I was all around that property and I was there for over an hour. I like the old porn theory. Based on the amount of storage trailers provide, and the fact that all the doors and windows are shut and not broken, it very well could have been used as porn sets. Who really knows, and are they credible?

Everyone knows it was an old porn factory. Each room had a different set/motif - you know - pirate, steel factory, country barn, etc.

When the director's needed an outdoor set, they went over to Luck Stone. The abandoned quarry on the north side of Hwy 29 was a very popular location.

Nah you will be fine. I mean first of all; if they did 'kill' you, it would be all over the news. Even if there were gov't officials at filmdex, I never heard of a shoot on sight policy. You obviously aren't posing a threat, so it would be illogical they would spot and you put one in your head san andreas style. At most, they will tell you to get the fuck out but that's what I think.

Hey,
So I'v lived in the area for 19 years now. When i was a little kid back in the day adventure was my middle name. Now for all you morons out there when i was about 12 or like 14 years old me an about 4 or 5 friends walked from our neighborhood through some trails that run through the woods, we found our self at the back fence of filmdex. Like the idiots we were ofcourse we jumped the fence and snuck around. We broke nothing but tried to open doors, of the 10 or so doors that run along the front of the old motel. Most still had old shitty tin framed beds with wat looked like shitty foam mattresses. Another had 2 or 3 desks with computers on them. Just a black screen was seen but all of them were on according to the blinking lights on the computers. For all you ones thats have to assume that its porn or whatever you think; two doors were locked and wouldnt budge. We assimed it was prollie the same as the other room with computers they just forgot to lock that door. The trailers are just full of shit not even worth a kids attention, much less an adults. Sorry to burst anyones bubble or maybe possibly keep someones bubble going because of those two locked ones but chances are this one is what it is. FILMDEX.

i never lie im a devoted catholic, and i have been to filmdex. they found me sneaking around in the cellar when they caught me and broke my camera. then two men strapped me to a table. and the woman from the picture took out a scaple and cut my dick off. then they threw me in the woods behind the property i was almost dead when a kind elderly woman found me and took me to the hospital. to this day i have to piss out of a tube and i cant masterbate. filmdex ruined my life i will never be able to get a wife or have kids because i tried to find out the truth for all of you. and look where that got me. morons.

Ok I am here to clear this up. I actually worked there back in high school. Just like you I though what the hell is this place and drove up and two people came running out and though I was there to steal something, after the confusion was resolved they handed me a job application. The Lee highway location serves as the storage center for the film that is used by the check ID cameras and where they build the cameras(see above picture). They also ship film supplies out of that location. Their company hq is in chantilly across from the Bob Evans. I was really dissapointed. They bought that old motel and just cut a hallway down the center and each room stores diffrent products they sell.

Sorry to ruin all your dreams,
Colin

I just called them for fun and asked where they were located. The woman who answered put me on hold, came back after a few seconds and simply said, "We're located in Chatilly." When I asked if that was a location off of 29 she replied that that was their warehouse. When asked what I was looking for I told her I was looking for a good printer for color film. When she put me on hold again I hung up. I guess she was new there, b/c she put me on hold when asked a simple question such as where they were located....or maybe alot people have been calling about the motel off 29. Who knows. A weird phone call regardless.

I doubt this place is actually selling film products, today anyway. Nobody uses film anymore for anything important. Commercial film equipment distributors should all be bankrupt by now, and that building has looked like shambles for 20 years anyway. There are plenty of abandoned warehouses and shabby motels around - so why is there only a conspiracy theory about this one? Because its true.

I have lived and driving this road for 40 years and have seen what goes on at Filmdex when it was at the peak of its time,I even know a guy I went to school with who worked there in there school work program and he would tell me things about the place. Everybody there always drove government cars all looking the same just like Cia do or any government agency back then it was white plymouth Furys and the guys you saw walking around in suits with brief cases,he said he was sure they were all packing guns as they would load up weapons before every trip I always noticed when I was young they would change cars every year or so what ever government agencys were driving they would, mosty plymouth furys in the 70's early 80's but in front of the main building you would see caddys jags and lincolns big cars. Sometimes you could hear gun shots as you passed the place mostly on weekends Im sure they had a range out there to practice on they even had guard dogs on weekends roaming the fence line.I was working a gas station in centerville when I saw a couple of these agents come in for gas all wearing shades white shirts tie and polyester pants real creapy guys cars would be packed with surveillance stuff who knows what was in the trunks and during the gas shortage years when you had odd and even days to get gas these guys got gas anytime they wanted even if our pumps were closed they could fill up I asked my boss what the deal and he told me don't ask questions just fill them up with a concerning look on his face kinda scared me never seen him like that in the 2 years I worked for him.One guy stands out little short guy who always looked like he had a attitude or hung over or just pissed at the world kinda Im sure if you said the wrong thing to him you might be missing later that night! We all know what went on in this country during the nixon years and we are now just learning what our government has been involved in over the years since my youth I havent heard from my school mate in years its like he just fell off the face of the planet none of the guys that we knew has heard anything from him and his family like they all just packed up and left not saying a word.Im sure there living somewhere with a different names (I-HOPE) Back in the day that part of rt29 was very secluded but it was just a skip and hop to DC then and haveing the quarry and concrete plant plus pavement materials came in very handy im sure.I drive by there now and I cant help thinking what all has gone on there they keep the grounds clean the buildings and fence are decaying but the main building still looks in pretty good shape you see cars there every once in a while or UPS trucks trash trucks and the name has since been taken off the wall someone told me if you looked closely to the letters on the wall you would see stars in graved on them from falling agents over the years.WE all know what out country has had to do over the years for the price of freedom!so why is it so hard to think it wouldn't happen on this stretch of Rt 29!!!!!!!!!!

This girl and I decided to get a bit crazy because they just knocked down the buildings we use to chill at (R.I.P. MVC); so we went over to the church next to Filmdex. Once there we decided to drop by the Filmdex building, but no one was there. After we watched traffic go by we decided to jump the fence and investigate a little bit. Not much to see except wasted film and photo paper thrown about; there was also wasted developing equipment inside the old (motel) building. The on thing that caught my eye was a new orange fork lift (Toyota) just chilling inside the garage of the old (motel) building. After seeing all this we were confused and a bit sketched out; so we decided to leave and come back another day. There are no “No Trespassing” signs or anything so I would like to think everything we did was legit.

They are trying to sell some of the fixtures that apparantly were in the building. They have a vending/soda machine in the moving truck out front. After calling the number listed, I was told that they wanted $300 for the machine. However the glass is broken out of the front of it and it's rather sticky where you get the sodas out from. Must have either had alot of sodas spilled, or Ron Jeremy came by to shoot a movie, one of the two.

I drive Lee Highway past Filmdex on a regular basis. There are cars behind the fence but nobody ever comes or goes during daylight. The gate is always closed. No security guard shack there. Suburbia is encroaching on what used to be the boondocks. The theory is that, with Vulcan quarry nearby, there are bunkers dug deep underground, and the old motel is for show. There is a flurry of activity at Mount Weather ascribed to social security haha, and also the bunker facility @933rollingholly drive. DHS=KGB

This is the above-ground portion of the facilities where CIA psychologists experimented with "novel" interrogation techniques in the early 1970s. One unfortunate subject who escaped was eventually captured after a period of hiding out in not that far away. They might not have caught him, but for several episodes of psychotic break, where he bizarrely dressed up in a bunny costume and threatened people...

Went there today, just loads of exposed old film rotting away in trailers. Looked like a lot of junk in motel rooms and film spicing equipment in garage/shop behind main house. There was a table outside that looked like it could have been used for developing film, also a couple of what looked like film developing chemical bottles and maybe a light of some sort. Couldn't get into main house and there are shutters in most of the windows. From what I could see there was more junk/boxes on some tables, etc. The whole place is really decaying and in bad shape. I can't imagine anyone did anything there anytime recently.

...oh, and I almost forgot: a fork lift in the back garage that looked like it was in really GOOD shape. There also some sort of motorized cart or something in one of the trailers to the west end and some commercial/industrial laundry basket looking things laying about with the name of some '????? METALS' company printed on the side and im one of the windows (bathroom window...?) where the 'motel rooms' are were stacks of empty, boxed cigar tubes (like a hundred or more)...?
The 'key' if any, to the riddle lays inside of the house, I bet.

I worked on phone lines in the main building in 2008. Remember (or heard of )years ago ,as recently as the early 70's...If you bought something on credit you would stand on a line about six feet away and they would take your picture with this grey colored camera about 2 feet high ? No longer used in the U.S. but the guy there said they ship them to third world countries that still do use them. He had a bunch of those cameras there.

I guess it's to scare people away but it just made it more fun. I can't remember too well.. but we definitely did find tons of tapes on shelves. Even took some. You can just walk through the place, mostly.

It will be a sad day when the Filmdex complex ceases to exist - I've been around 20+ years and always wondered what the heck it's still there for; seen and heard many different things. A continuing source of bemusement that'll disappear into history when it's replaced with a church or something (*).

==========

(*) I believe that area is a "no residential" one so only light industry or a church can be put there, essentially.

I've lived less than a mile from Filmdex for 25 years, so I was as curious like everybody else here. Once I saw the brick wall with the FILMDEX logo come down, I felt like calling the old phone number and seeing who I could get in contact with to get some info about what used to go on there, and why you never saw customers frequenting the business. If they develop film, were they a commercial enterprise for the public? Or just contractors for other businesses? Well, when I called, a giant blue dick squeezed out of the receiver and slapped me in the face. I think some leftover trickle got in my mouth. Do not fuck with these people... I'm serious.

Just called. The lady acted very scared and somewhat tested when I began to ask about the rumors and while I didn't say any of the rumors, I insinuated that weird things go on there. She kept asking if I was interested in buying the place. I kept saying no, then said there was speculations about the place. She paused for awhile and said it was owned by an individual. I was so weirded out that I had to say thanks and hang up. It was the chantilly filmdex

I have been inside the compound many times. Let me first express my concerns to any would-be adventurers out there: Filmdex is not a simple operation and you will require supplies (food, water, and gobstoppers), competant and seasoned adventurers who got your back, and the courage to face darkness, darkness within filmdex as well as within your own soul. My expedition force has acquired a many of phat loot including but not limited to: 20 year old whisky, a painting of a large scale navel engagment, Filmdex merchandise, a truck full of novels entitled "Clickster Clackster," and harddrives which our fine researchers are examining, research that may lead to the origins of filmdex and for that matter, the origins of the Illuminati. As fellow explorer Dongs has pointed out there is even ancient archaeological discoverers within the labyrinth waiting to see the light of day once more. I will not go into detail but we have reason to believe that the Arch of the Covenant is hidden within the depths of Filmdex. I believe that exploration of the compound not only sheds light on the mysteries of Filmdex, but also on the mystery off our true purpose on Earth.

I know these post are old but that place is really creepy. I went online and tried to do some research on that place. I found some info. Checked Fairfax Government to see tax assessment it's not listed. "TG" posted above "The current legal owner is "Ida L Slattery" who purchased the property in 1978 for $250,000. It's still listed as a commercial property. There is no record of who she bought it from." I don't know where he/she found that information. I think of myself as a decent google searcher and there was no info. You can see for yourself, click the property link below and search for yourself. The address to the property is 15900. The property is worth $312K. Owned by the Slattery Family.

Joseph E Slattery - Male 87
Jean Eileen Slattery - Female 50's
Ida Livia Slattery - Female 83
So i'm guessing Parents and daughter.

There is another Slattery that doesn't show up with the others
Bob Slattery - Male http://www.manta.com/g/mmcglpm/bob-slattery

The third thing I found was the building's Size in Square Footage which is 12,748 SF. Fourth is the APN/Parcel ID #064-1-01-00-0006 and Census Tract #4910001009 which normally would help to find out more about the property, they're useless. You try to google multiple terms with and without the numbers it loops you back into one of the websites I've listed below.

Other people related to the Slattery Family:
Catherine L Slattery
Debra L Slattery
Ginger Christine Slattery

Joseph and Ida bought property @403 Harbour Pt. Apt. #201 Virginia Beach VA on 03/03/1987 for $142,450 and sold it on 12/30/1999 for $137,000
Found info above on http://www.city-data.com/virginia-beach/H/Harbour-Pt-3.html

I found a lot of questionable information that I won't post but that's about it. Anyone has any more info on the company post it up.

Funny I used to work there myself a long time ago. It was a great summer job for me and I had a wonderful time there. I have to say that it did have its creepy parts simply because they modified that old motel to house there busine ss. I remember as a young boy always wondering what they did in that place. They ran that place with well they were probably wise not to sink a bunch of money into a new facility. It was always cool when they blasted at the rock pit cause it really made the ground shake over there. I could go on about bees and snakes as well as poison ivy. I would trade my job in corp. America to go back there anyday.

We went today and recorded the whole house. If you guys wanted to check it out, we will put it up sooner or later. Yeah its mostly old film equipment and thousands of papers scattered all over the floor. We found hundreds of checks on the ground and decided to blockade one of the doors just to fuck with anyone coming to check it out. LOL. I nabbed an old picture of a woman who worked there i guess. Email me at jonathanrouse6@gmail.com for the video and title it filmdex.

Been in there today. Recorded it. Lots of graffiti and it looks like barbarians smashed the place up. Druggies and homeless men probably hang out there mostly. Blockaded doors to piss future adventurers off. Graffiti mostly said "No pants" and "I'm in me mum's car"

Scary place until you realise you can chuck filing cabinets down the stairs.

Hi everyone :-)

so this is just for fun for me.

I am sitting 2-feet from my filmdex camera,

quote,

Transaction
Photo
Recorder
Model TPR-2
Pat. Pend
Serial NO.
437

end quote,

That is off the back plate of the camrea.

Age of camera is unknown, BUT,
I have used it since 1972,
oh
and am still using it now at O-Hare Airport
to accept and hand out frt. (amazing I know!)

What brought me to this web site, was my discovery of
not being able to find film for the camera.
(we had last ordered about 1-years worth, which,
with a change of business, has lasted for about 7?)

Kinda sure that this camera was in use during the 60s,
based on what I remember senior employees telling me and that
it was from our Midway location.

One amazing thing for me is, that it has never broken
nor faltered in all that time, so, whew, they really could
build stuff that would last.

Modern transaction recording systems are now digital and thus,
are more susceptible to hacking. This old film system was great,
because the film was never developed, unless there was a problem.

If anyone is still following this thread, please feel free to have a
field day with my post, but it is the truth.

I know, photo-s or it did not happen, well, maybe I can.

anyway, hope you found my post useful.

MT,

oh, and if anyone knows where I can get film, that would be great.

still around.

I know for a fact that the abandoned filmdex building on route 29 is haunted because a year or so ago some people I know went into the building and one of them says "it looks like a S.W.A.T team raided the building and was stomping around in it for 4 years". One of the people who went into it a few years ago got this horrible feeling and said that he wanted to kill everyone in sight of him so he had dived out of one of the broken windows and went and got in the car. But then just the other day a group of kids I know went in to the building and they walked around and all had this horrible gut feeling. Whenever they touched something they would feel this shiver yo there body. I think that its for sale but I am not sure.

Hello, this thread might be dead but i live in VA run and i am very curious about this FILMDEX... I believed it was an old CIA building that turned into a motel, i never assumed it was for porn but i can see your point. Anyways, my family has been trying to purchase that plot of land for some time now, and we have yet to have an estimate in over 7 years. There used to be for Sale signs but have mysteriously vanished. When we called, no realtor could give us any information on the cite. If you know a way in, please let me know, i would like to investigate and will document for all you. Thanks! Email me if you have any suggestions or theories, thank you again.

Hi,

I'be read through this entire thread starting from 2008 and I'm a little spooked. I live in Chantilly and got the world from a friend that we should go to this abandoned spot and I was down for it. I t was last summer,I was 16 and me and 4 friends parked by the church and walked to the FILMDEX building, the doors were blockaded but we found our way around them. We were there in the daytime so we were able to see a lot, except for the floor(which was covered completely by papers) every tax letter was from the 70's and there were just boatloads of tax papers. The motel building is filled with those filmdex cameras. The place was pretty spooky but very interesting. I can tell no one has rightfully lived there in 10 plus years but I find it creepy that their lawn was kept mowed till this day.. I can tell the upstairs of that house has been reconstructed into cubicles for accounting, but must'be been abandoned around the early 90's because I couldn't find a single paper dated past 1992. Really cool place, I suggest going in the daytime/sunlight if you're into that type of stuff.

Growing up in C'ville in the 70/80's - this place was always a bit of a mystery. The most plausible theory is that it was once a legit hotel and then converted to an CIA facility of sorts. The porn theory seems like a huge stretch too me. Who's shooting porn in a remote location of C'ville, VA? The porn industry is in CA, always has been, so no need to be located across from a quarry off Rt29, unless of course you're doing Civil War porn. OMG! IMO- Filmdex, as a company is fictitious. No film related products going on there.
