Centreville :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I heard they are tearing down the ACE garden center and making more retail space between the hardware store and the post office.... stores planning to go in are Chipotle, an Italian Ice store and a couple others. Not sure what is going in the middle of the parking lot.
Maybe with some more traffic in that shopping center Safeway will be forced to have more than one cashier working at any given time.
I heard grandmart that smelly dirty stupid place is finally going out of business. the traffic in that area will greatly improve! does anyone know whats going in?
A vegetarian market is going in there. That will not last long if its true, and btw the traffic has greatly improved! I am so happy that dirty place is out of there!!!!
They need a SMALL grocery store that people can walk to to buy staples like milk, eggs, and bread - one that can be fully supported by minimal LOCAL customer traffic, then something else in there - NOT another BIG grocery store.
Anyone want to help get a petition going to get a Whole Foods where the Safeway used to be? I am so sick of going to the Giant...I miss a grocery store there..
I know the owner of the property was going through legal issues with Grand Mart for pulling the Baltimore Colts "Mayflower" move. I am not surprised that it remains vacant. I would have thought 8-10 years ago was the best chance to get a Whole Foods type grocery there. However, the demographic has drastically changed and I just don't see one coming in the near future. It's sad, I was a resident of Sully Station for 25 years, I moved but still own property there. It would be nice to get the community back to what it once was.

Go on... you can say it... you mean "white" don't you. LOL
I'm not going to even pretend to say I didn't think that, lol. In the area, there has definitely been an influx of Korean's. (Not saying that there is anything wrong with that). I also am talking of all the retiree's as well. Sully was once overflowing with kids from my generation. The majority have all since moved out of the area. So I also figured in these individuals (the one's who have been living in the same house for the past 35 years) on a fixed income that probably would not shop at Whole Foods based soley on price. Even though Giant isn't much cheaper. What needs to be done is a complete teardown and rebuild to bring in some younger "yuppies" lol. I am not hating I still own property in the area, I loved Centreville, but it's changed.

Go to WALMART, takes less time and you dont have to wade through lines of skateboarders and employees chain smoking. Im done with Giant and their high prices,
What's happening with this shopping center? First Ace, now JoAnn Fabrics and Blue Water! Put in an American Sports Bar or Wing place. Would bring in a ton of business from all the Government Facilities and High School around the corner!
Owners jacked up rent so high they are leaving. The Chinese rest. had the best take out. They were charging him 11 grand a month .Have to sell a lot of fried rice. Nothing but crap stores going in now
I'm relatively new to this area. I too find it frustrating that the only thing in the immediate area to pick up snacks or quick odds and ends is the giant. A 7-11, anything other than the sonoco would be nice.
Also how about some sort of automotive service shop? That would be convenient. Va tire and auto has rubbed me wrong and will not get my business.
Modify the end of that shopping center down past good will and put in a garage with a few service bays.
