Karen S. Deck was a 42-year-old Reston woman who was shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend, Ronald Robertson, on October 23, 2009, while he attempted to unload a 9 mm pistol she had found in a closet in his apartment at 11900 Winterthur Lane #PH-3.

Robertson, a chronic alcoholic, did not notify the police after accidentally shooting Deck. Instead, he called his mother and his friends, none of whom believed Robertson had actually shot Deck. Eventually, Robertson passed out.

The next day, on October 24, he called his mother again and she notified police, who discovered Deck's corpse. The extremely obese Robertson was so drunk at the time that he was unable to get off the couch where police found him, so they dragged him out of his apartment.

Robertson was found guilty of manslaughter and is currently serving time at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
